What happened with the trunk tray?
I remember seeing pics of the trunk tray around a lot before the car was released, but there is no mention of it on bmwusa site. Anyone hear anything or see it in the US?
And i also noticed that now Assist and Bluetooth are included with the Prem pack where it use to be a separate option. Thats a good thing. I will be ordering in the next week weeks when i see int/ext colors in person |

Assist and bluetooth are still available separately as well.
The trunk tray will be a dealer-installed accessory it seems. I'm most peeved about not getting the two rear 12-volt outlets that the Euro cars get. |

So what do we get instead of the two outlets? I heard the same about the tray from the dealer but nothing about it on the accessories page of bmwusa.

We get nothing as far as I'm aware in place of the two rear outlets. We get just a really stupid looking plain plastic cover over where they would have been.
When I mentioned it at the dealer yesterday a salesperson said that if I could find the part number for the piece with the outlets on it that they could order it and put it in for me. He said this was likely since all the cars use the same wiring harness and that it was likely that the wiring for the outlets was just sitting behind that cover. Funny how he expects me, a civillian, to find the part number, rather than he, who works in the BMW organization. I will probably look into this once I get my car in July but I won't be paying more than $100 to $150 to get this done as I'm really not driving many people around in the backseat that often. Its really neat to have though. |

My advice: Buy in volume, but use Pacific BMW, not Circle. AND use Pacific's 800 number (1-800-909-PARTS). Many of these parts are already here in the USA and can be shipped within a week. Who said you need a BMW Car-Club discount to get good prices? |

Can someone please explain in brief, high-level detail the benefits (like discounts!!) and membership requirements for BWM Owner's Circle, BMW Car-Club, Pacific BMW, etc.
Thanks. Last edited by RedStripe; 05-09-2005 at 01:48 AM.. |

I had aftermarket ones installed on my E46 and yes, I believe the BMW ones also have to be drilled. |

Thanks RichReg. Any clue if they come with installation instructions? I have a drill like most folks and can probably attempt it myself, but i am scared i may screw something up.
Let me know. It can't be that difficult. |

I was also scared. But when I saw it done, it looked like mostly a lot of crouching and sweating. Mine were aftermarket, and if anything, they would be easier than BMW's pedals. On mine, you had to remove the rubber covering on the stock pedals, then line up the aluminum pedals (they were really new aluminum COVERS, not pedals) and drill through the premade holes in the cover. You would actually drill into the respective arm(s) that comes down from under your dash, then screw and bolt the new aluminum cover to the arm. Myself, I'm not good at doing that stuff. Not sure if BMW's pedals are the same, but most likely they are....they just charge more for them. And I'm certain that they come with instructions. |

BMWCCA Rebate Form In addition, many dealerships will offer you 10-20% off of parts if you are an active member. You also get a yearly subscription to Roundel magazine (not earth-shattering journalism, but its O.K.) and the car-club newsletter. Costs $40 a year. |

I just noticed that you are IN California! In that case, your best bet may probably be Circle BMW because Pacific isn't going to give you mail order/Internet pricing. |

Thanks very much for the information. I only wish I knew about it sooner, like a year ago! For anyone curious, if you are a member of BMWCCA, you get (among other things) a rebate for buying a car. For example, the 3 series has a $500 rebate, and the 5 series has a $1000 rebate. HOWEVER, for those upcoming buyers, you only qualify for this rebate if you've been a member for at least the full 12 months before purchase date. |
