Yellow warning Lights - Brake,Engine, X & DSC

Hi All,

New to BMW and this site. Just purchased a US model '06 330XI - 6-sp. Very cold here - 30C. Car was sitting outside and started fine, then drove off and after about 1/8th mile the Brake, Engine (and SES light), 4x4 and DSC lights illuminated in yellow. Car is in limp mode - <2000 rpm. Called the dealer and he said it doesn't like being cold. Supposed to warm up later today to -8C, and I will try it again. Driving it last night at -28C and everything was fine. Any ideas??

Thanks, Mike

I'm guessing that's your battery.
Due to low voltage you get these kind of errors. Mr Winter usually indicates to the owners that it might be time to change the battery. But if you had it sitting for a time, just drive it around or better yet recharge the battery. Recharging or changing out the battery would be the safest option, as you don't have to drive it untill fixed.

Thanks for the replies. I'm also thinking battery. I read somewhere that the battery has to be 'programmed and registered' to the car? Is this true, and how is it done? Car is probably on original battery and it sat for about 8 months until I just bought it 4 days ago.

Thanks,

Mike

If you replace with same spec, then you dont need to program. Jut register it.

Have you noticed long cranks in the morning? If not than I would look elsewhere but I would still replace the battery regardless because of age.

If you have someone near you with a tool that can adjust the steering angle sensor please give that a try, because that erased my errors after I disconnected my battery and reconnected it!

Try turning the steering wheel from lock to lock. This will reset the steering angle sensor.

Well, all is good. Temp warmed up. Started the car and it still had the SES light on. Started and stopped it doing errands a couple of times, and the SES light went off too. I will be replacing the battery today. Supposed to get cold next week again. We will see what happens.

Thanks,

Mike
