Two weeks til Geneva!

Here's hoping we find out more than we already know, and see some nice new pics of the interior and exterior.

I just hope we don't get the "high-revving V8 with more than 400HP" and "0-60 in less than 5 seconds" BS!!!!

How about some nice surprises, BMW?

That's exactly what we will get. Probably no interior view either.

the new m3 should have the same layout as the 335 but would have sportier seats, instruments, the use of carbon fiber and other small changes.

I doubt if there will be any specs in Geneva. Specs might be out in Frankfurt.

I'm crossing my fingers for some basic specs such as horsepower, weight, transmission. Hmm, more info is always better, but if that's all the told us I would be happy. That way I know if I need to start shopping for a 996 Turbo.

Haha thats funny, yes I'm praying for some info also, I've been thinking if I should just go with the M5 instead of waiting for the M3 but I don't need the M5's space right now maybe in 5 yrs I will but not now...& as much as I like the M6 I wouldn't buy one...

My 2 cents

Like already posted I expect to see a nice 99% complete view of the exterior of the car. The big questions about the mirrors, license plate/diffuser, side grills, etc. will probably all be answered with some definitiveness. Probably we'll find out about wheel/tire size as well. However, we probably will not see the interior and will likely get BS specs exaclty like "400+ hp" and "0-60 in less than 5.0". It'll be great to see the sheet metal (composites?) in person but I am not optimistic for much else.

I guess they want to see what the competition are doing, then tweak the M3 accordingly. BMW should have several contingencies up their sleeves.

It probably is too late for contingencies other than maybe ECU tuning. Things like bore, stroke, even cams and exhaust probably have to be final by now if cars are going to be rolling off the line in September. Tooling needs to be finalized, not only by BMW but by each supplier of any component not made internally. This takes time and probably requires that everything be "frozen" by now.

yeah...rear view mirror became the real issue for me along with the location of the license plate. (Though, I am pretty sure that it will be on trunk instead of bumper.)

Not really concerned about side vents.

If they say "high-reving engine with more than 400HP" and "0-60 in under 4 seconds," I'll be happy.

There is no reason this car can't be 0.9 seconds faster 0-60 than its younger brother, the 335i. If the 335i can do it in 4.8, I fully expect the M3 to do it in 3.9.

Law of diminishing returns pwns that theory.

Quick example of that is...If it takes a 3500lb car with 300WHP to do a 4.3 0-60mph sprint, it will take the same car 400WHP to break into 3.9...Not just a few additional horses.

0-60 under 4 seconds is an outstanding feat, but one that will never be done this time around for the M3...too much mass and not enough power.

It takes more and more power to get lower and lower. (Percentage wise)

Then how can the Bentley Contential GT, which weighs 5,300 pounds, get up to 0-60 in 4.7 seconds with only 550HP? Your calculation just doesn't make sense to me and I'd like to see some real info to back it up. I don't believe for a second that there isn't a 3,500 pound car out there that has less than 450HP and can make it to 60 in less than 4 seconds.

I should also mention, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 weighs 4820 pounds, has 425HP, just like what's projected for the new M3, and gets to 60MPH in 4.9 seconds. BMW will never let their flagship M car only get to 60MPH less than half a second faster than an SUV. The M3 is about 10 times more aerodynamic and weighs 1,300 pounds less! If the M3 comes in any slower than 4.3 seconds (rated by BMW) for the 0-60 run I will be both upset and confused. And if it is rated at 4.3 by BMW, you know it's going to be at least .3 seconds faster, and probably even 3.9.

Agree with replicat. No way the new M3 is going to break 4 seconds 0-60. Aerodynamics does not matter at all 0-60. It is hp, weight, traction and gearing, period. No matter what hp and weight the car ends up with inside of the reasonable ranges we are all guessing 3.9 seconds justs isn't in the cards. Street rubber in 275 width (hopefully we'll get 285 or 295) will not help get the time much lower. There is also the fact that it takes more power to get from 5 to 4 seconds than to get from 6 to 5, just becuase V = a x t (assuming roughly constant acceleration). The best comparisons we have is E60 M5 and RS4 (even though RS4 has a distinct advantage with 4WD) which are something like 4.2, 4.3. I'd place a large wager on 4.1 - 4.4 actual. Who cares about the brochure number...

Three words. ALL WHEEL DRIVE. The new M3 will not run 60 under 4 stock. Period. End of subject.

if that's the case, you will piss off quite a lot of exotic owners out there considering F430 0-60 is 3.9 seconds.
i will be happy with low 4 seconds.
