how to find out if it's tuned.
I had my 335i for 3 weeks now and it's a CPO. i am wondering if the car is tuned or not.
The reason i am wondering because the difference between my xdrive 335i AT to the 335i rwd MT is almost night and day in the power feel. My question is how will i find out if my car has a tune without taking it to the dealer. Here are the following difference i am currently experiencing 1. xdrive tires are very seldom in slipping even on heavy winter. RWD my rear tires are constantly slipping and burning tires even on very dry road conditions 2. My xdrive feels very slow off the line. like very laggy and boggy feeling but in my RWD tires will slip, tires will get traction, whiplash. or RWD tires will have traction, then whiplash from second, third, fourth gear. 3. i feel like i can reach 150kms/h faster that i had to make sure i watch my speedometer on the RWD 4. my friends and relatives who i use to drive in my xdrive (who for some funny reason never noticed that i have a different car) are asking me if i did something with the engine because it feels extremely powerful specially off the line and getting to 100km/h I doubt that the RWD will feel that much different with the xdrive. i read that the xdrive AT is suppose to be faster but that is just not the case with the RWD MT that i have. Like i mentioned before the difference is too much that i want to check it myself if it's actually tuned without taking it to the dealer because they might take it off. Thanks again everyone for any suggestion or help |

Not saying that it isn't tuned, but more wheel slippage with a rwd is to be expected. After all, you're basically sending all of the power to two wheels instead of four.
have you opened up the ecu to see if it's chipped? Otherwise, I think there is a way to tell with a code scanning tool if it's a chipless tune. I'm sure somebody else will chime in. |

Throw it up on a dyno, check the numbers. You will know after that

Why would an xdrive be fast? It has to push 2 extra wheels. You have higher drive train loss with a 4wd car not to mention the added weight.

It's also freaking cold in Southern Ontario right now. Helps with the charged air density.... Plus, you might simply be getting a lot more out of the 6MT transmission (greater involvement). Get a short shift knob and you'll be a few metres even closer to heaven.
BTW, if it is CPO'd, then it most likely doesn't have a tune. But as the others have said, a dyno will tell. |
