Show your luv for the NA 128

Are you tired of the 135 owners dissing your 128?
Are you depressed because there are more viewers in the 1M section than 128 owners?
Are you worried about the new 4cyl Turbo engine replacing our beloved N51/N52?

Well, just spend some time on this thread to discuss and show your luv for the 128.

I thought we had a thead like this already xD.

Anyways, I plan on keeping my 128i hopefully because it will be the last NA inline 6 I heard. Maybe if I keep it it will be worth a lot of money in the future : ). maybe not xD.

As for the new engine, I am really into it. That engine will be able to get to 270+ easily with just a tune, something that is HARD to do on our cars.

I think the 128i is a great car. Had one as a loaner and it was a blast being able to push it without worrying as much about getting in trouble. Lot more fun than the ridiculously boring 328i loaners.

If someone can get the N52 head modded to rev efficiently to 8,000RPM and added maybe 8psi of boost using a centrifugal super-charger, I think it would make GREAT power and have a VERY linear torque curve, similar to a hopped-up S54.

Loving my 128 that I picked up last Oct. at the PC. Performance exhaust will be going on next week. I hope I like it as much as everyone else who has it seems to!

Get the perf cold air intake with the exhaust like I do. You will be grinning all day every day. Much quicker acceleration to redline and the sound is sweeettt!

Love the noise after 4k.

Probably even better with the BMW PE + an Intake.

i hate people calling the 1 a *** car or chick car. its was the essence of BMW during true motor sport days. I love my car it makes me happy every time i drive it. After all i chose a 128 over a "328" which people consider "higher"... NOT IN MY BACK YARD!

Talk about dissing, I drive the 128 that everyone disses. Non sport, auto, and leatherette seats..although power/memory. Almost to my 1 year anniversary, and not one issue or rattle. My favorite moment in it was one day I had several friends with me and a white 135 pulls up beside me. The 1 is so rare in Dallas they all go hey there is a car like yours....one guy says that must be the base model. I immediate ask why do you think that. Your paint looks better and it has black trim like a Corolla. I just laugh to myself and wonder how may other people think like that. Anyway I get lots of compliment and people think I paid a lot more than I did for it. Even the non sport is fun to drive, and no 128 can out run me or out handle me on the streets of Dallas with out breaking the law. If I feel the need for speed my wife and I have a C6.

I love mine. Great gas mileage for a i6. I get around 29-30 @ 70mph. I used to have a heavily modded evo9 and that was a pain to drive. Constantly checking for air leaks around the turbo, always looking at my rpm's and all that stuff associated with turbos. Now i just get in and not worry about anything.

Luckely I've never heard anything bad about my car. Sure it helps that most of my frends own cars with close to 200,000 miles on them, and the rest seem to like trucks (they don't need trucks, but they like trucks.....yea)

I specificaly bought the 128 BECAUSE I didn't want a turbocharged car. I grew up through the NA I-6 era of BMW, daydreaming about the S54 while I commuted around in my T-bird and my Golf.

It will be a long time before I'm ready to accept the Direct Injection Turbo world. But it's clearly the wave of the future. Hopefully there will be a lot of years before I HAVE to move on.

I have a lot of love for the 128i and the N52! I do not think the 4cyl turbo will actually make it to the E82 but if it did, I'd have thoughts of trading my 135i in for it.

no mechanical problem (that's really important)
excellent MT box

After a year and a half, I still feel the same way I did the first time, when I sink into my seat and press that start button.

Still very happy with my 128 after a year and a half, though I can't say everything has been exceptional. A couple of minor niggles with build quality and such, but nothing really significant or that can't be fixed in the shop. As for the engine, I've never been a fan of turbocharged cars, and this baby packs more than enough punch for everyday driving. I even tracked it last summer and it was a ton of fun (my first event).

At the end of the day, there will always be a car that's faster, more powerful, etc. Even when you get to the Bugattis and the Zondas, there are still "better" cars out there! You should be happy with what you've got and learn to make the most of it. You wouldn't be any happier driving an M3 than a 128i, or vice versa. Just enjoy the ride!

Having driven my wife's SAAB turbo, I'll pass on both the 135i and the new BMW turbo4. But I don't quite understand how some folks on this thread complain about no respect for the 128i and then they diss the 328i.

I'm lucky enough to own both. A ZSP '08 128i vert for fun and a CPO '07 328i wagon for my daily driver. The 128i has taken us on extended 4,000 mile trips in comfort and the wagon swallows a half ton of cargo with ease. Both with MT (and both weighing within 20 lbs. of one another), each is perfect for it's intended purpose.
