Throttle Surging with V5

I know Vishnu is working hard on the new updates that will probably address the throttle adaptation issues causing the surging of the throttle while driving (the car acts as though I'm pushing the gas and letting off about once every second even though I have my foot steady - really annoying)...

I was just wondering in the mean time if anyone has had any success with getting it to smooth out? I've reset all adaptations and the ECU and let the car sit for a couple of hours. After about 60 miles of driving on map 1, it almost seems like it's getting worse.

Any suggestions?

Yea, I had the same issue only after using NA mode. I actually ended up resetting everything including firmware/maps/ecu/adaptations. It was REAL annoying, but it went away

+1, for the time being we recommend only using the NA mode for valet purposes. Doing a long highway drive may induce throttle adaptations that show up when running the regular performance maps. It will go away after you reset adaptations and drive for a bit. How long depends on how you drive. If you want to speed things up, just reset all adaptations (followed by an ECU Reset command) and then just drive in Map0 for a bit. It will work itself out.

On a side note, we worked out a different method to induce NA operation that shouldn't contribute to adaptation values. It's probably a couple updates away. But it's coming...

That's cool I've had the same exact feeling after the NA mode wish I've never touched it , I'm going to try driving in map 0 after adaptation reset

Shiv, I thought you recommended driving in a regular performance map (map 1) to smooth things out. You're saying I should keep it in valet mode?

Any idea why it's not improving after over 60 miles of driving following resetting everything?

It really doesn't matter what map you run. I'm only suggestion Map0 since those would induce the most standard adaptation values. You just have to drive normally (ie, not just cruising at one engine speed) and it will re-adapt. There are BMW recommended drive cycles that speed thing along but normal driving will do the same.

Have you tried to follow BMW's adaptation procedures post ECU reset, as documented in my thread here?

Thanks for the link. That procedure explains my commute almost perfectly. That's why I'm curious about the problem not going away. And after realizing it's Wednesday (not Tuesday) that means I've actually put 90 miles on the car since going through the whole reset procedure. If 90 miles of following the BMW driving procedure doesn't eliminate the surging, I'm not feeling very hopeful.

Is there another solution? Maybe just reloading the firmware as someone suggested?

That test cycle probably wont get what you want to re-adapt to re-adapt. Try this: Do a Throttle Adaptation Reset followed by an ECU Reset (all through command center). Turn off ignition power for 1 minute. Then drive in Map0/stock mode to see if it's sorted out.

Reloading firmware or maps wont do anything as they have no effect when running in Map0. What you are experiencing is DME adaptation, not Procede learning.

Okay, I will give this a shot on my commute tomorrow morning. Maybe driving in map 0 instead of map 1 will be what does the trick. I'll have to call and bug you if it doesn't

I had the same problem. Tried several times to reset the adaptions and got nothing. Took about three weeks to readapt.

I'm wishing that the new final update map/FW will roll out to public soon.
