Photos to be "leaked" "very soon"

Well this is officially 3rd hand info... but a cat in LA had a mule encounter, talked to the driver and he said we would have leaked (un-camouflaged, obviously) photos "very soon". This is consistent with other rumors and Geneva being in about one month.

Probably not for another 10 days at least.

I think it is unlikely BMW would purposely release photos/teasers of the M3 during a major show unless it did so at the show itself. The Chicago Auto Show is happening from now until February 18. The media day has already occurred. The only "new" vehicle being shown by BMW is the Alpina B7. There is no indication that there will be an announcement or teaser from BMW for the duration of the show. I think we will not see anything until February 19 at the earliest. But take heart -- Geneva is coming fast!

I will be attending on Saturday before normal show hours with the Windy City Chapter of the BMWCCA. Typically, BMW sends a rep to the show to address the club. Last year, it was Larry Koch, who at the time was head of BMW motorsport activities in the US. He said the new M3 was two years away (actually, he said it more indirectly -- something like "if you lease an M Roadster now for two years, when your lease ends, the new M3 will be just about ready"). I asked him whether the new M3 would have DSG, and he effectively said DSG was too refined for an M car. I can't remember his exact response, but IIRC he made it sound like he thought DSG was for "girly men" or women. (Not that there is anything wrong with either.)

If I have an opportunity, I will try to ask whoever BMW sends to the show this year about the new M3.
