If you want to sound like a formula car buy a lexus. No exhaust will make your car sound like that.

F1 cars sound the way they do because they have vee-type engines (v6, v8, v10, etc.) that have "flat" crankshafts (power strokes every 180 degrees) and they run at upwards of 15K RPM. You're not gonna get an exhaust system that can even come close to duplicating that sound on your smooth inline-6, even with twin turbos. And the louder it is, the more "drone" you'll get at cruising speeds which will be very unpleasant. And lastly, a loud exhaust may be fine for a high-school kid or a track car, but not really advisable for the street. You tend to piss off too many of the wrong people that way.

OK, wiseguy - try the BMW Performance Exhaust. You ask for a recommendation sounding like a know-nothing and I attempted to enlighten you. You could have saved yourself the smartass remark.

Catless downpipes should have a bigger effect on the sound department than any exhaust... Why don't you start from that?

WoW! I thought roundel335's post was very informative - he told you exactly why there's no such thing as an exhaust that'll make your car sound like an F1 car. I would have thanked him for the useful information. Oh well, kids these days...

Active Autowerke's Signature 335i Exhaust has been known for its F1'ish sound and deep growl at low rpms. This exhaust is a true DIY being fully bolt on...that means no cutting, clamping or welding. Take a look at some of the pictures and PM if you have questions.

The Eisenmann race would be your best choice as far as the loudness goes.

The F1 sound, buy a Porsche Carrera GT and put straight pipes on...
