Is this caused by the JB3???
1. Driving around 65-70 mph on the highway if I pressed the pedal to the floor the power from the jb3 was there but around 100mph the car would go into limp mode and the "engine malfunction reduced power" > light comes on I pull over turn off the car for 5 min and turn it on the > warning isn't there and the car seems to be running fine....2 weeks go by and > everything seems ok then it happens again n continues to happen every time I press the pedal to the floor. 2. I decide to recheck all the wires from the jb3 > everything is ok and all wires are connected by the tape, i keep the jb3 installed but set it at map 0 and hope for the best...later that week I'm at a stop light and the car begins car begins to shake n the revs are dropping and rising on there own so I pull in and I restart the car and it's still > shaking but now coming from the engine bay is a knocking sound and I get the following malfunctions Malfunction in transmission> > >> >> > Engine malfunction reduced power> > >> >> > At this point my only choice is to disconnect the jb3 and > reset the ecu, after returning the car back to stock the same codes are still there and the car has even less power than it did when the "Engine malfunction reduced power" light was on.... I only have 1 month of bmw warrantee left but I'm scared to take it in and even more scared to drive the car...i emailed terry the codes and he was as helpful as he possibly could be but i am afraid during the "un-install" i messed up one of the wires that have the same colors....
does anyone have close up pictures of the original bmw ecu before installing the JB3 or can tell me exactly what is written on the following wires i know its in the DYI section at n54techs but i need to kno exactly how to tell the difference between the colors for example JB3 orange: slot 6 (oxygen sensor 1, yellow/white wire with 525 stamped on insulation) so i need help with these wires..... Large black subconnector: JB3 yellow: slot 10 (boost, yellow wire) JB3 white: slot 29 (crank position, yellow wire) White subconnector: JB3 gray: slot 9 (fuel pressure, yellow/red wire, connect on all models) Small black subconnector: JB3 blue: slot 7 (oxygen sensor 2, yellow/white wire) Grey subconnector: JB3 dark red: slot 7 (throttle position, yellow/white wire. May be blue/white on 535) |

What octane gas are you using? What was your oil temp? What map were you running? Are you having long starts?
These are things we need to know. |

do you have an 2011 n55 stage 1. Similar problem that i just had with the jb3! I was driving home from AC half cel engine malfunction power reduced. pulled over got gas it went away. next day same thing. Went to Helix to get the codes read came up with 7 codes! 2 were tune related 5 weren't. so we took the jb3 off and i have been driving without it for a week. Going to see if there were any codes tomorrow with the car being stock. if not we will update the firmware and try again with the jb3! i'll let you know tomorrow how it goes

I'm going to go with the same response when this has been brought up in 100 different threads....
HPFP, injectors, spark plugs or coil packs... This of course after you have done the typical troubleshooting steps for a piggyback.

had the same problem, took me a lot of time and money (changed hpfp for no reason, knock sensors, sparks, coils, aso ) and it was for DPFix v3, if you are using it, just give a try without it, leave alone the SES light that might come up

HMMM what about that crank shaft code... that has vanos written all over it still. Glad to hear the car is running strong again. Keep an eye on it, don't be surprise if it pops up.
