aFe stage 2 intake

So I installed the afe intake and it is rubbing against my hoodliner leaving a nice sized mark on it too. Everything was installed properly several of my mechanic friends confirmed that as well. So for my question, is this normal and other than my intake getting dirty quicker are there any other potential problems from the hoodliner pressing down on it? Also should I decide to take off the hoodliner will the hood be fine with the amount of heat the N54 generates under the hood?

The DCI is designed to use the hood to enclose the top part of the intake so that is normal. That is why there is a rubber seal around the top part of the metal shield to ensure a solid seal.

Yup - that's my understanding as well. Sounds like you have a pretty good seal there - how much is it pressing against the insulation - is it really tight - i.e. making it a problem closing the hood or anything like that?

Thanks for the feedback I feel a lot better knowing it was designed that way. The hood closes fine with no trouble at all and it seems like only the front part of the heat shield and the front cone are being pushed down from the indentation left on the hood liner. Also has anyone had any problems after taking off their hood liner because I think that may be the only way to fit a strut brace over it.

I don't think you'll have any problems with the hood liner removed as the newer cars don't even come with them any more. That said, I think you'll lose that seal on the intake if you do that. That said, perhaps some other folks can chime in who have the intake and no liner...

Ya my only concern is the fact ive had the intake for a few weeks now and the part of the cone thats rubbing against the hoodliner is already turning black I really don't want to be cleaning my intake once a month =/
