Thumbs up Day Trip from Loudoun to Shenandoah Area (Feb 3)

This is short notice, but anyone interested in taking a day trip to the Shenandoah area this Saturday, Feb 3rd? It should be a nice day in the mid 40s. I'd like to check out the Flint Hill Public House restaurant on the way down for lunch. Got a great review in the Washington Post and the menu looks good: http://www.flinthillpublichouse.com/lunch_menu.html

Planning to take the following route. I'm open to a better alternative if someone can suggest it.

- Meet at Leesburg outlets at 10:00am / Depart at 10:30am
- Route 15 south
- Route 29 south
- Route 211 west
- Route 522 north
- Arrive at restaurant ~11:45pm / Depart 1:00pm?
- Route 522 south
- Route 211 west
- Arrive at midpoint of Shenandoah Nat'l Park
- Skyline Drive north
- Take either 81 north and 7 east; OR 66 east and 15 north back to Leesburg

Looks like it will be a relatively long drive. I'm still up for going alone, but it would be cool if another bimmer came along

Why do you guys love to make early morning trips! I never see anybody plan an afternoon drive anywhere. Some of us like to go out Friday nights. Sorry spark, I would really like to make the drive, but only if it were a bit later. Need to start waking up a bit later, man!!

It sounds great, but I wish it were a little warmer out for a drive like this. Highs out there tomorrow will be in the low to mid-30s. I'd recommend taking it easy in and around Shenandoah. Sorry to sound like a dad.

I didn't expect it to be wet tonight as the original forecast said that the wintery mix would end this morning. Damn meteorologists!

I'll probably head over to the Flint House restaurant for lunch still and save the longer drive for next time. Should be a two hour round trip from Leesburg.

*cough*

As a member of the "damn meteorologists", let me just say two things:

1) They blew it.
2) I'm on vacation, it's not my fault (this time).

For future reference, in warmer weather, I will be all over a trip out that way with fellow E9x drivers. The most difficult part for me is making time for it, but this is something I really want to be able to make time for. I've done that route by myself quite a few times (pre-kids, I took many drives out to Shenandoah for photography), and it is a great drive.

It looks pretty dry out there and it turns out I can make time for this this morning. Are you still planning to go to lunch? I might be able to join you for the drive from Leesburg.

It was a pretty frigid day, but at least there was lots of sunshine. Great restaurant definitely worth going to if you're in the Shenandoah or Warrenton area. Looking forward to driving with BK again

Nice photos, and quick! I just got back and my wife is going nuts from our 2 year old so I am on duty -- I'll post my photos tonight.

I had a great time, your 335i is beautiful, and the restaurant gets a big from me. I added it to my nav and will be back with my wife. I doubt I'll drive on the access road quite the same with her as you and I did, though.

spark227 and I talked briefly about going down to Tail of the Dragon sometime. We ought to make a Mid-Atlantic e90post weekend out of it once the weather warms up.

I have just about the exact same pictures, but I'll post mine, too. Unfortunately, no photos of the restaurant, but it is basically an old house converted into a restaurant -- think bed and breakfast. I thought it was very good and I will be back.

I also have a couple of photos of spark227's terra interior. The color was very nice, not as red as most photos show it. The photos are nothing special, I just wanted to see if my camera would capture the color right (it did). If anyone is interested, I'll post one or two.

Nice pics, BK. Did you manage to copy my flash card somehow?

Here's the WashPost review of the restaurant. I didn't remember it getting 1 out of 4 stars, but it was a decent enough place that I'd go back to. Nice atmosphere and friendly service. I thought my smoked ham and brie sandwich was particularly salty, as were the onion strings, but BK liked his burger well enough.

Next time we should try Four & Twenty Blackbirds or Griffin Tavern which are both "Editor's Picks" and just down the street from FHPH.

No racing, but we had fun in the twisties. There were more cars out there than we expected, and a few speed traps as well.

when you speak bed and breakfast, it reminds me of NH Wolfeboro Inn, a home turned B&B restaurant, where I got married many and many years ago.

I surely would like to see that Lake Winnipasauki view behind it. aghh, maybe someday... one at a time

I'll join you guys next time, my roadster needs a good run especially after its service the other day, maybe we can sway AJ to go there next week on next e90/92 run
