Visor warning sticker removal

I can confirm the obnoxious bright yellow seatbelt warning labels that come on the sun visors are easily removed with Goof Off. Dab some on a cotton towel, hold the towel on a corner of the label, then gently wipe the towel across the rest of the label. Start peeling at that corner by lifting the label with a (clean) finger nail, then s-l-o-w-l-y pull across the rest of the label. You'll never get the entire label to come off in a single piece, but once started its pretty easy.

Try not to soak the Goof Off into the visor material as its smell will last longer.

If you wanna take 'em off, do it when the car is newer so any color change or fading of the visor/headliner material is not noticeable.

Some people like 'em, but I'm happy not to see the tacky warning labels.

Are you serious? Man I was complaining about these the other day. I HATE THEM!

I can't believe they have the nerve to stick something that big and ugly in the interior of our cars "permanently".

I don't have any Goof Off but I need to try this. Where did you pick this up? And what kind of smell?

Dit it leave any lasting marks? What color are your visors?

Well, the labels are gone from my E90's visors so yeah, I guess its for real.

Can't remember where I got the Goof Off - its not exotic - I suspect most hardware stores would have it. The smell is a nasty touluene smell, but if you use it quite sparingly and don't saturate the visor with it (just dab on the label) the smell in my car didn't really 'stick' - there was no hint of it the next morning.

No lasting marks that I can see. The area under the label may appear a bit lighter when you first remove it - some of that is residual glue which you can also dab off. Today I see no reminder that there was a label.

My interior is black leather (Sport/Prem pkg.) so whatever color of roof liner and visor comes with that. Looks 'greyish' to me. Good luck!

I purchased Goof Off and tried the label removal on my new E90. Let me say that it's not quite as easy as those above may say. There is no comment in the thread above that the vinyl becomes soft and grows quite a bit. I was very careful to use the Goof Off sparingly, but if you use enough to soften the label, the Goof Off (Xylene mostly) soaks into the vinyl.

On the first decal I removed, the Goof Off soaked into the label, and the black ink of the label bled. Although the label did come off in many, many small fragments, I never did quite get the black ink completely out of the all the grooves of the textured vinyl. One the second visor, I was more careful on the quantity of Goof Off, and the ink did not bleed.

I suppose the ambient temperature during the process must have some effect. It's November in Ohio, and my garage is probably in the 40's or 50's. Maybe using Goof Off in warmer environments makes the process easier.

A few hours after removal, the vinyl had grown, and the rectangle where the label had been was sagging and wringled. It looked as if the visor was trashed. Some say that after a couple of hours, or even 24 hours, the vinyl will shrink to normal. But for me, it took about 5 days for the vinyl to eventually shrink back tight. The vinyl did shrink tight, but there is a light ridge on the border of the original label. You can still see the outline of where the label was installed; seems to be a very light ridge around the perimeter of the label.

Overall, the project was successful, but not a completely clean removal. I can still see where the labels were located. Looks good enough that someone not aware of the label removal would never notice, however.

Can someone post some pictures of the visor after they are removed? I am thinking about removing them.

Hmmm.... the visors in my 330i sport/prem do no look like the vinyl in the above pics - rather, they are the same material as the headliner. Any one know if there is a difference between prem vs non-prem visors or 325 vs 330 visor material?

In the pictures above, it looks like a little glue residue still on the visor.

Fwiw, I had used the same technique w/ Goof Off with the warning labels on my E39 which did have vinyl covered visors. The labels came off easier and left no marks.

My visors are also covered with the same material as the headliner. If I were to use Goof Off on my visors, I'm sure it would stand the finish and really make a mess.

I don't know if the covering material has anything to do with the model or not, but I also have the sport and premium package on my car.

I removed mine yesterday. I also have the grey material on my visors that is either the same or very closely related to the headliner material.

Couple things of note: I also removed my labels in my truck, those were a plastic sort and one almost fell off and the other is still hanging on in shreds. In comparison, the BMW labels nearly disintegrated under the "onslaught" of Goof Off (actually, didn't use much at all). OK, I take that back, they DID disintegrate, turning into something with the consistency of, well, snot. There was no opportunity for peeling off the label at any time, they shrivelled up and died without a fight.

Results are fairly good. I can see from an angle where the labels were, which means that I can see where the passenger one was but the driver one is invisible to me. Not sure if that's because the visors have become lighter with time or if there's still some sort of residue left there. Can't feel anything to the touch.

I also removed the windshield warning while I was at it, that had a LOT of glue behind it.

I had a much worse time. My 330i w/zpp had the cloth visor, and is now stained and in the garbage. I have a new one coming in next week.

I do not recommend anyone try to remove the stickers from the cloth visors.

Can you just use a blow dryer or rubbing alcohol instead of this Benzene stuff (Goof off)?

I bet BMW would say something smart like the label is for deaf people. Since they would be the only ones that would be driven insane by the seat belt chime....

I have both Goof Off and Goo Gone. My visor seems to be cloth, exactly the same texture and feel as the headliner material, and light gray in color.

Upon applying judicious amounts of Goof Off using a thin cloth towel, the label's adhesive began to dissolve, and the edges curled. The Goof Off smelled like lighter fluid. The black ink from the label edges did bleed onto the visor. I applied a little more Goof Off, and with some rubbing, more of the ink came off. However, more solvent was getting absorbed than the amount of ink removed. I then tried Fantastic (I'm thinking laundry stains here, not BMW visor), even Goo Gone, which smells like lemon.

I also have 3M adhesive remover, but for ink, I may even try hairspray (because of the alcohol content). In organic chemistry, we learned that like dissolves like, and I believe that I'm dealing mostly with ink, not adhesive.
