Camber Pins?? Is there such a thing?

I have been reading about people removing front "camber pins" in this thread but have yet to see them on my car....I called TC Kline, Turner, and a local shop that preps BMW's and nobody knows what people on the forum are talking about.

I want to get a bit more negative camber front/rear but everyone insists either adding washers (shims) or camber plates is the only way to go. If there is another way (camber pins?) does someone have pictures?

It's on top of the strut tower.
In this pic you can see the pin between the fender and the strut tower.

With the pin removed, loosen the three strut nuts and the strut can be moved inwards for more neg camber.

(sorry forget who belongs to this pic)

I see. And does this affect any other alignment settings on the strut? Is there an increased chance of one moving around? Also, is it better to do shims/washers aka the Turner kit or is this good enough?

opps wrong info in post 2; updated.

It depends on how much neg camber you want.
I do both.
You will change toe settings when you do this.
More neg camber = less toe in.

Some guys set the camber out for street & in for track.

While the pin technically is a part that is keeping camber fixed, there's no practical increase in the chance of things moving around. Nothing to worry about. It's a part used in the factory to line things up and isn't structural.

To your first question, increasing negative camber increases toe-out. For the street you want a hair of toe-in (factory spec) and for the track you want either 0 toe or a hair of toe-out. Perhaps others can chime in on how much toe out you get when you adjust after removing the pin. But to be on the safe side, I'd recommend at least a front end alignment to make sure things are still where they should be. A wonky toe setting can chew through tires pretty quickly.

Ok. What I am looking to do is basically set the car up for limited track duty without buying a whole new suspension or adding plates. I want to get a feel for the car first and then see how I want to proceed. But I do want to eliminate the cars tendency towards understeer so I can see a baseline of how the car handles. If all I need are the washers from the Turner kit or to remove the pins to obtain a good degree of handling improvements then that is the course I want to take first.

I would start with just the pins.
See how that works & go from there.
Tire setup makes a significant difference as well.

BTW... what model are driving? Your member profile lists Audi.

Just got a Z4MC with 19k miles. I raced an E36 and an E30 M3 in BMW club racing, NASA and PBOC for about 5 years and then moved over to Lotus Exiges (I had 2) when I moved to Florida (racing here SUCKS). I bought this car to do a few track days per month but I do not want a race car for the street. Just want to find a cost effective way to wring the most out of this car. I would do pins or shims and springs. I do not want to do a full suspension redo. Maybe sway bars. Going to run dedicated track wheels/tires in 245 275 configuration on 18's. Upgrade brake pads. See how I like the car then and decide if I want to keep it for the street or upgrade. But those plans are about 6 months away as I don't have the time now.
