When will you buy the new ///M3?
All wait for the performance numbers/comparison tests and the prices to come down. Got another reason then post away.

Voted on the wait list. There is a dependency as what advanced SMG transmission the M3 will get and if it is not 100% to my expectation, I will also wait to see the C63 AMG in 2008.

My dealer will not be marking up the M3, so no reason to pick that one

I would phrase it differently. Like what are the three best sports sedans under $65K? My weightings would be 50% performance, 25% interior quality, 25% exterior look. My vote would be
(1) E92 BMW M3 (2) Lexus IS500 (3) 335i PP Basically I am saying there is nothing better below $65K than the new M3. Of course I am throwing out the RS4 and C63-AMG as too expensive (above $70K) and also throwing out cars like the EVO-MR and Subie-STI as cars meeting only performance needs. American cars suck and Infinity/Acura don't have a worthy car at this level of performance. Did I miss anything? |

Not interested in the coupe at all. For one thing, I don't like the looks. I'm waiting for the sedan. And even then I'll wait until the second year after it's initial release.

Can you quote me one "kink" that any new BMW model has had since the E46 M3 release? If you don't count the fact that some senior citizens might have thought the iDrive was too complicated on the E65/E66 (7er) initially, and that the facelift looks much better from behind, there weren't any. BMW has improved it's quality testing since about mid 90's vastly. And even the M3's "kink" was a third party issue, not BMWs fault that they got delivered with parts that didn't stand under pressure up to spec.

There are very minor differences between a 2001 M3 and a 2006 M3, same HP, same body. BMW didn't make any major running improvements on the E36 M3's either. Which is why I don't see any negatives to buying the first year. See them on the road and no one can tell the difference, 1st year vs later years... Except the guy who bought the car in 2001 got to enjoy his longer. Cheers! |

They did make some form of suspension upgrads midlife. Drive an old and newer one back to back and you will notice less understeer in the newer car.

Yes and no. As of today we look back and everyones problems were resolved and people received extended warranties and new engines and for the most part everyone is happy, but that's a revisionist assessment of the situation. When the engines started blowing up BMW blamed the failures on overrevs and improper oil in some cases and customers had to fight hard in order to get their cars fixed. Take a look here and read some of the posts if you don't beleive me... http://members.roadfly.org/jason/m3engines.htm With all of that being said, I'll be getting one of the first ones that rolls off the production line :-) -Adam |

-BWM E46 M3 engines: As I have posted on this forum before you can not solely blame a nameless, faceless "supplier" for the huge engine problems. Sure BWM fixed the problem and made up for it with a warranty but it is/was a huge mark against their quality. And the problem since is: -E60 M5 SMG problems. Again I have posted here about this problem. The main post and following discussion is here: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13223 I am sure there are more. But since I haven't and won't follow much more that BMW does besides M cars I am not the best source really. |
