Well the rumors, speculation, facts and fantasy are abound. Herein I am attempting to create a long list of all the things we all want to know about and keep posting about. I sure wish the forum had a poll feature, as this would make a great place for a poll; no comments, just votes would be cool. Since we don’t let the comments roll…

Performance:
-0-60 mph
-0-100 kph
-0-100 mph
-1/4 mi (haven’t seen much debate on this one yet)
-Nurburgring Nordschleife lap time
-Lateral g’s on skidpad (BMW has been a bit weak here compared to P cars and others)
-Braking (60 mph-0 and 100 mph-0, again haven’t seen much debate on this and historically M3s are at the very top of the ever important (and fun) braking game)

Drive train:
-HP
-Torque
-Redline
-Flat or cross plane crank
-DGI
-Transmission options
-Differential, new or M5

Body/Interior/Suspension:
-How much, if any composites will be used in the body
-Weight
-Will sunroof be mandatory
-Will HUD be an option
-Adjustable suspension (EDC)
-iDrive
-Wheel/tire size

Other:
-When will be get some indisputable specs from BMW
-Which show will premiere the new M
-When will we see first delivery in US/EU
-Base price

Yes, thanks for that, I see now there is a poll option. I even started a thread with a poll but it is only one poll question per post, which made it a bit clumsy to post a bunch of questions. I just gave up.

Would love to hear some debate about 1/4 mi, braking and skid pad. Everyone get SO obsessed with 0-60/0-100.

OK diving in to my predictions, at least many of them. These are based on tons of spreadsheeting competitors, using a bit of physics based formulas and just looking at what competitors need to be beaten.

Performance:
-0-60 mph: 4.1 s (not the brochure number, they always underrate)
-1/4 mi: 12.6 s
-Nurburgring Nordschleife lap time: 7:57 m:s
-Lateral g’s on skidpad: .90 g
-Braking 60 mph - 0: 110 ft
-100 mph - 0: 195 ft
-Top speed: 190 mph (limiter removed, obviously)

Drive train:
-HP: 433 bhp (brochure number)
-Torque: 330 ft-lb
-Redline: 8500 rpm
-SMG 7 speed (with shorter gears than E60 M5)

Body/Interior/Suspension:
-Weight: 3500 lb (with significant aluminum/composites)
-Wheel/tire size 275/35-19 rear

Other:
-Base price: $57,500 USD

Specifically on the 0-60... E46 M3 did really well compared to others in this class despite pretty bad lb/hp and lb/tq figures. It did it with quite low gears. BMW can tune the the 0-60 pretty precisely and it should be just as fast if not faster than the E60 M5.

If you really want to see how clever you are post your reply. It will be fun to look back and see how we did!

For a ring time to come in under 8 mins, you will need more than .9 g's. The CSL does a 7:50 flat with only 360 horses. The weight plays a big role in the lap time, but just as important if not more, is the incredible 1.4 g's the CSL achieves. For comparison's sake, I know it's apples to oranges, but the flagship (boat) SLR Mercedes posted a 7:52. The Carrera GT laps the ring in a 7:37 but has less grip than the CSL with a very impressive 1.35 g. I am not speculating, but I would like to see the e92 M3 to come in under the 8 minute mark.

My number is for a standard 300 ft skidpad (magazine number). At the speeds on this tight radius vehicles do not develop and appreciable aerodynamic down force. On the ring, at speed is where you can easily break 1g due to the benefit of down force. The amazing CSL numbers comes from a great car but also from street legal race tires! It would not break 8mins without them. Certainly the new M3 with the same tires and some other small tweaks (maybe the CSL version of it if they make one) will trounce the 7:50 time.
