No E90 M3 until next year.

No showing of the new M3 until next yr sept. They most likely be selling in 2008. The guy in charge of the M models said the M3 will "not" be dull. More time to save

"handling and dynamics over engine output"

.... if this quote is accurate, does that mean they don't care to at least match the HP of the competition????

Possibly. For me it's all about hp to weight ratio. If the new M3 only puts out 400hp (as opposed to Audi's 420 RS4) but the M3 weighs less to make up for it, the M3 is still ahead of the game, not only that but the RS4's base price is going to be substantially higher.

This far in advance, the details cannot be certain. If the M3 had 410 hp or so and keeps the wieght down, along with the far better weight distribution compared to Audi, it will be smoikin'. You can bet BMW knows the competition intimately. The delay in release may be to hone details to make sure it is the best in its class.

At least they seem to be working on the braking issue. Looks like it could be a 4-pot caliper to me:

You and I are definitely on the same page, I have seen your posts on Roadfly as well. I'm eager to see the final product. I just hope they get it right.

True. The new M3 almost certainly will weigh less, perform better and cost less than the RS4 - but it doesn't possess the extra weight, cost and "advantages" inherent with AWD - trade-offs like these make life's decisions tough, I guess.
