Star Spec prices up

When I purchased my first set in January I paid $161 per tire (245/45 R18 - was for a 350Z). Now the same tire, same size is $207, big increase over 8 months. I am not buying the same size but wondering if the increased popularity of the tire has caused this or if the materials pricing has gone up.

Actually I heard rumors tire rack is an exclusive dealer for them, so of course they would raise prices.

Rubber shortage due to competition between tire and condom companies. How else can you explain the chick looking so sad in that pic? She's thinking to herself, "DAMMIT TO HELL; imma hafta be preggo now...". So she tries to steal some rubber from her tires, but then finds out the hard way that it's not the same shit

Bummer,
Tire rack is still a little cheaper than discount tire (discount will match their price). Guess I should order before October.

www.discounttiredirect.com (direct) has always been cheaper than TireRack for me?
They have free shipping and don't charge tax.

Check their eBay store too. When I ordered my last set of rims and tires they were supposed to already be mounted. They weren't and there were no hub centric rings. I called them and they sent me the rings the next day. They also asked if I would take them and get them mounted and balanced then fax them the bill. I did and the money was in my PayPal account the next morning when I woke up. Awesome customer service.

I ended up getting the RS3's to try something different. Plus they are a little cheaper.

Ran the RS3's today in a time trial (like a high speed autox). Much more grip than the worn out star specs but new tires will do that. I had to run higher pressure, 37 front, 38 rear cold. I would run the star specs at around 32 cold.

Tires were fine, I am running 245/40/18 square setup and I still have a little understeer with stock alignment. This was a fast couse too, 3rd and 4th gear all the time hitting 110 on the fastest part. Before next event I will install the washers on the struts to get -2 to -2.5 camber and then see if I can get a slight oversteer situation.

Im not to familiar with the star spec tires or who makes them but Obama did put a 35% tariff and some imported tires from china. My tire guy told me it was to help push americans into buying american made products.

China does not let their currency float, keeps their products cheaper to us so we buy more.
