I think BMW has me brainwashed, need opinions...

Hey guys, this is my first post here and I could really use your opinions on my situation. I very recently traded in my 2004 330ci for something more practical and economical, I also wanted something new this time around and wanted to spend under $30k so i bought a new passat. It's a very nice car however after owning it for a little while now I am completely missing my old BMW and can't help but think I should've gotten another used (newer) BMW. The steering feel, handing, rear wheel drive, badge bragging rights (), I miss all of it. I recently found a 07 E92 328i 6MT for around 22k which i'm pretty sure I could trade my car evenly for, but is it really worth trading in my car for something thats 3 years older with 35k more miles even though i'd get so much more pleasure out of it? Or is it just a stupid idea? Sorry for the novel but could really use some opinions, Thanks guys. Also, the car is paid for so nothing to worry about with neg. equity or anything.

Keep the Passat, enjoy the new car for a while. Step back into a bimmer for your next car. Since you've already traded in your old car for the Passat it just doesn't make sense bc you lose so much value on a brand new car.

HOneslty in the lower-luxury end segment...BMW IS King.

Its the upper segment, like 7 series where BMW gets beat easily.

3 series is the best in class. Not much you can do about it. The 328 is probably the best value too.

This seems the practical way to go. You will lose about the same amount if you trade the car now or one year later.

Better to keep it and sell it to a private party after an year or so (or longer). Enjoy the new car for the time being. I believe you do care about your money if you are going by a $30k budget, which is a pretty good amount.

Out of curiosity, did you not test drive the Passat before buying it? Though I m sure it wont be as bad as the Japanese counterparts in terms of driving experience.

Had a 2010 passat for a week, not a bad car, interior quality was really good, keep it for a year or two then jump back into a 3 series.

I understand liking your car and all, but people brag about having a 3-series?

Keep the Passat. It's not a bad car at all, and you'll get screwed if you trade it now.

It's a poor financial decision. The Passat is brand new so you know it doesn't have any hidden problems and it has your maintenance covered for the next 3 years. Is it worth it to take a huge hit on the brand new car? No. Like others have already said, keep it, enjoy it, and in a few years trade it in. You might even be able to trade it in on a new F30 3 series, or pick up of the last years of the E9X body styles for great prices.

Dude...you will feel the same way about the used BMW once you make the move.

Keep the passat and wait for the new model to come out. Would be about perfect timing for some used 3-series to start showing up on the market just as your VW warranty is running out.

And if you car is DSG, make sure you unload it before the warranty ends!

Keep your car until you need a new one, then back to BMW

ah I guess you guys are right, the smartest thing would be to keep the passat until warranty runs out and then trade. I've never been known to make the smartest decisions when it comes to cars though, and everytime I see an E9x I get a feeling of regret. I found a 07 E90 335i at carmax for 24.9k they'd probably give me 22k for mine....very tempting for me, I just miss everything about my old 3 series and since the car is paid off it's never going to be worth more than it is right now. I'm going to drive it today and just get an idea of what they'd give me for mine...

(this is the non-economical side of me talking ) Sometimes you have to do what makes you happy. If a loss on the new car is ok for you, I say do what feels right, you only live once!
