Fort Stewart

Can some of the members give me some info on the Savannah area, where to live and where to avoid living as well as Fort Stewart in general? I'm commissioning(10 years enlisted) in 3 months and am considering changing my duty station choice.

Savannah is an awesome place to live, but there are definitely bad places...mostly right outside of the city...be sure to talk to someone stationed there before buying. you can get a nice house and some land about 20min out of downtown....and your BMW will remain in your drive way/on rims . cops are bad there tho FYI

Interesting. So basically find a place 20 min out or live on post. I need to google Fort Stewart housing and see what i'm working with lol. Thanks for the info. Do you recommend renting or buying? I'd hate to be stuck with a house I cant get rid of in 5 years but letting the army pay for more than a 1/4 the cost of the house I buy is nice too...

Yeah i've heard that from a couple other people as well. Not sure if the wife would go for that long of a drive, but i'd like to live somewhere thats a quality area with nice houses.

Congrats to you as well! I don't know the branch yet. Find out on the 21st of October. It's exciting times around my school right now. Today we find out where we rank out of 5000 cadets in the U.S.

Richmond Hill is pretty nice, but it's really, really boring. Guyton / Pooler is growing fast and is pretty convenient, but still fairly boring. There are some safe/nice places to live downtown and/or Southside if you look closely. The area around King George Blvd is very nice, but traffic there is horrific at almost all hours of the day.

I would agree with this IF you're married. If not, you should consider Savannah, even though the distance to/from Fort Stewart means you'll have to get up at least 45 minutes earlier for PT than if you lived in Hinesville.
