335i BOV "map sensor"?

Shiv said that the 335i uses a "Map sensor" rather then a "Maf". Is this true? If so, this means having a Bov shouldn't cause any problems. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks for all the links, however I have seen them all. Alot of the threads only tell you how the car would sound and others just claim that there will be no problems. I guess I'm just being Naïve but I need proven facts. Thanks for your help though. Anxiously waiting the arrival of my 335i. 37 days and counting.

From what I have read on forums, this sounds like a good explanation.

On other turbocharged cars, most have BOVs that go back into the intake chamber. Some ECUs know this (with sensors) and expect that extra air, the 335i apparantly ignores it and has no sensors. The extra air that the car would get would be hot and uncompressed anyway so it won't matter much either way.

I'm not sure 100% I worded everything correctly, but I think it's close

I can't see how a BOV would be a problem with a car with a MAP sensor. If the 335i had a MAF sensor then it would make sense to me. Cars like EVO's and STi's have problems with BOV's since the ECU with a mass air flow sensor is expecting that extra air when you let off the throttle, but cars with MAP sensors shouldn't care.

Shiv told me that the 335i runs on a MAP sensor, however Calvin@Vishnu claims it's on a maf sensor. I definitely believe shiv over calvin but it gets confusing. Would it be wise to install a BOV? I love the sound of it. Turns chicks on......

BOV is a must on the 335i.

I will get one if everything works out fine.

I'm sorry, but this has to be one of the funniest comment ever. The 335i already comes with BOV

You guys will find that VTA BOV gets annoying after a while since everytime you release the gas pedal, it will sound.

The whole reason to upgrade the BOV in the first place is to hold boost better, even Shiv said that the stock holds boost with no problem, I see no reason to upgrade...unless you want that ricey sound.

the factory dump valves sound just the same as any other dump valve if you disconnect the outlet and plug the pipe it went into. I think the 335i engine uses a Mass Airflow Sensor AND a Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor, in fact i believe it has 2 of the latter, one before an done after the throttle butterfly. Lots of people have firred aftermarket Dump valves, and it doesnt seem to cause a problem, maby the super smart computer can still run the engine fine without the extra air from the dump valve going back through the intake system.

My turbo VW's had a diverter valve which needed to be upgraded as more than factory boost was applied, I went with Forge diverter valves and never had an issue.

Not sure what kind of sensors VW's had but people that installed BOV's had issues with check engine lights.

I hope I never hear a 335i with a BOV - so ricey.

The 335 has 2 map sensors.
1 before the trottle body the combines presssure sensor and temp sensor.
And 1 in the intake manifold.

Also since the sensors are located after the diverter valve, if we where running a MAF the sensor would read the flow after the BOV open and would fuel the motor according to the accurate air flow.
In this situation the MAF would be called a blow thru MAF.

See pics of the 335 air induction overview
Look at nubers 8 & 11.
I also added more info on th efactory BOV.

Ignorance is bliss. Too bad I see myself as a car enthusiast that enjoys driving and not a superficial showoff, having owned both honda's and BMW's I cannot help but have your statement rub me the wrong way. I'm willing to bet that my honda could run circles around you, but since it doesn't have that fancy badge on it, it must be worthless. I wish this forum was filled with more car enthusiasts instead of some people who look down upon other brands that don't have the same snob appeal.

You becoming too serious !!! Just kidding guys.
We have a BMW and we got to enjoy it sometimes.

I also have an Opel Corsa 1.2cc ...so what?

Give me a break...

Just for your info (cause you called me Ignorant)...I may be a BMW fan and had many BMW along the last 10-12 years ,but keep in mind that my second favorite car is 350Z (a Nissan!!) and my dream as a new driver was to own a CRX (and later an S2000).

On the way ,I may bought BMWs but the truth is that I respect Honda.
