Expectation management has started

The propaganda as to why it wont be called M1 and why it won't be an M car is starting. Rumours of 350-370 hp are being replaced by 335 levels. I am getting concerned that this is an tarted 135is. How very very sad.

Give it rest with this stuff please. This 1M is was championed by the new M Boss himself. It was his pet project. Do you think an embarrassment is a good way to start a career? Wait for the real specs. When was the last time an M car ripped an exact copy of an engine and let it be?

Over the last days we got some excellent protoype pics.
Nothing more, nothing less.

From these pics, we've learned that the quad discussion is now a thing of the past. We're now also nearly certain of the LSD, and big wheels and brakes.

That's it.

Some have expressed disappointment about the specs. What specs exactly? I must be terrible at comprehending Scott's posts, because I haven't come accross any.

I still have no doubt that the 1M will be as cool as David Hasselhoff.

Eithe A) you can't read, or look at videos, because Dr. K introduced it as M product. B) you are trolling.

It's not a M1 because they "retired" that badge, unless it is for a true mid engined exotic.

My hope posts like journalist copy or critical review, are an attempt at keeping BMW honest. They can do so much with this car it could be one of the very best they have ever made.

I can't see why the majority of respondents don't recognise the underlying principles of feeding back what we want instead of being given a high margin, warm over of an existing car.

It is too much to 'ask' directly (it will be what it will be); its is not possible to 'guide' BMW (they know what they are doing) but it is not too much to collectively hope that maybe just for once a large corporate makes a masterpiece on which perhaps they don't make a great deal of money because the cash has gone into the product. We the buying public have some say even if it is only in forums like this.

An affordable M is what I want. With a bit of luck it marketing will also win over and it be called M1. (Yes thankyou I know all about the M1 or the early 80's) and just maybe it will be subtle enough that between the lines readers will get what they want from it too.

One, you need to understand, if you have read what Scott has said in the past. M Division has a say in all chassis platforms, because a M model will be built from it. This was true except for the e82 platform. Because of this, and because the 1M is a sendoff for the e82 platform, M Division had to modify an existing platform. The next 1M will not go this route, as M Division has a say in the next generation's platform.

Also, the M1 will not be an "affordable" M, since when are exotics "affordable" to the masses? They are "affordable" to those who have the money...as is any car. What you really want is "cheap", or let's just cut to the chase. Because you want a exotic for a cut rate price, if that happened, then there is no reason to want it, because everybody could afford it. We want what we cannot have, and a exotic car represents that.

The 1M is the entry level M, and if you can't afford it, say so and just wait for a used one.

So I guess the M3 is a cynical upgrade of the 3 series, by your logic? And the S55 engine in the 1M is the basis for the next M3 engine. How's that for a "upgrade". This is a M product, done by M Division.
What is your beef, what are you complaining about? Instead of being so cryptic, come out and say it.
You are looking at a car with a LSD, M3 suspension, brakes, a carbonfiber roof, about 360-370 hp, ligther weight, better on the track, DCT, and yet you complain?

Have been lurking here for over a year following the 1-series and I have to say that troll posts like this are amazingly annoying. Anyone worried about the number of exhaust tips, the specific letters on the trunk, or the number of inches of wheel diameter typify the average BMW owner purchasing for the vehicles image instead of the end-product itself. The 1 series is the first BMW I've considered buying and the M-series is going to be even better.

Here is the real reason why the 1M won't be called an M1. 30 years ago BMW made this M1. You can read about it here.

Yeah! Then you're done posting these incessant whines about a thing few know anything about, since you are no longer interested? Or are you doing this drivel as a public service to help the rest of us not wind up with a porker, misnamed, compromise, "135 with a coupla tweaks"? If so, thanks, from the bottom our our collective little hearts.
