I usually wipe mine down w a product.. but im thinking, soap, then a rinse might be a lot easier?

Try to keep water away from the alternator too.

Keep using product...do it a few times.

Although I see some of the pros just washing up the entire engine bay...I don't see why you can't do that.

Use a light mist, diluted APC and various brushes and towels. Don't soak the motor and make sure it's cool

APC - All Purpose Cleaner

Lots of them on the market - I like Simple Green diluted, Optimium Power Clean works well.

- Make sure the motor is a bit warm (not dead cold).
- Cover the alternator with a plastic bag (I didn't on my 335i and it was fine).
- Spray some degreaser (I use Chemical Brothers Orange Degreaser or Carlack 68 citrus-based) on all of the engine bay, reach out all the bits. Be generous. Do not use water before spraying the degreaser, it works better this way.
- Wait for 5 minutes.
- Use a pressure washer to wash the engine, at about 75% pressure. Hold the lance as vertically as possible. Do not approach the lance to the engine parts while washing.
- Wait at least 30 minutes before starting the engine
- Don't be afraid to wash your engine
