Butterfly valve on exhaust?

This morning I was being curious as usual and found a vacuum actuated valve on the driver's side exhaust just after the muffler. Any idea when this is closed or what effect it has on the engine?

The valve only controls sound levels

FYI, I know there has been some discussion and debate about the true function of this valve. I recently discovered that the E90 electrical system may have a backpressure sensor as well.

Great information. I have worked on a few E90's in our shop and have not come across any type of sensor. Do you know any links regarding this information?

Thanks.....I may clamp the hose one day to see if there is a sound difference but if there is no performance benefits, I'll just leave it stock.

BTW, I did do a couple of searches and nothing came up. I guess I used the wrong key words in my search.

Sorry to hijack the thread but...

frogman, can you look up the wiring for the rear seat power outlets for European models? I want to install the rear outlets but without the wire taps everyone else used.

I suspect the Euro models with rear seat outlets must have a pig-tail that splits the power to the hidden front armrest ("iPod") power outlet and to the rear outlets.

I thought about running wire to the front cigarette lighter like FrankQ did when he swapped the sunglasses holder but I believe there is a cleaner, "factory" way to do this.

My dealer has been 2 weeks trying to obtain this info but no luck so far. Could you help me out, please? I need diagrams and especially part numbers for the connectors, if possible, so I can make my own pig-tail.

Thanks!

I'm at my office at the moment. When I get home, I'll see if I can find those diagrams for you.

I cannot seem to open those wiring diagram CDs. The programs on disk require some software I either don't have, or have but haven't figured out to use them.

I'm not sure this will help. This is the best I have:

Froggy, that backpressure sensor looks like N54 only, i.e. TURBO! =)

Our N52's don't have one, I don't think.

Thanks for trying. I appreciate that you took the time to look for it.

I need a little more detail of the power connection (bottom left hand side of the read console and the part numbers of the connectors.

BTW, are you missing the SVG software from Adobe to view the diagrams?

Get it here http://www.adobe.com/svg/viewer/install/ Adobe is discontinuing support for SVG on Jan 1, 2008.

May I ask where you ordered the WDS disk from? PM me if you prefer to answer that way.

Thanks. Now that I'm home and have downloaded/installed the viewer, my wiring diagrams are at work. Ugh. I'll bring them home tomorrow.
