Help. How can I get the scratches out of my car that were caused by steel wool?

I had to use steel wool to remove the rust spots that are still, just not as bad, all over my car. The germans here like to use a ton of salt during the winter and this salt has a ton of sulfer in it. These "rust" spots are on my paint and I had yellow "crap" all over my OEM rims.

What do I have to do to take the light scratches out?

Steel wool on paint? are you insane?
you should have used a clay bar

you are going to need a paint correction, a abrasive polish is applied by a machine in various grades depending on the damage.

Clay didnt get them out. I tried for weeks to get that crap off. Even with steel wool it still took a while before the spots came out.

I would hate to see the damage that liberal use of steel wool has done to your paint! Pics please! As index1489 mentioned, it could take some aggressive polishing to correct the damage. If you know someone with a paint gauge, it would be a good idea to check some readings in and around the areas to see how much clear you have removed. Unfortunately depending on the grade of steel wool, it can cut through clear quickly like a gritty sandpaper.

If you are having issues with rust, check out the Bilt Hamber website. They make some great non-abrasive products for rust removal and prevention.

We get a lot of salt put down on the roads during our winter here in Canada. A lot of people are using the "CounterAct Electronic Rust Protection System" I'm sure there must be something like this in Germany.
