I need to take my paint down to get all these seriously deep swirls in the paint..
What do you guys recommend? (multi step process w/ multiple products) I did a search but there are so many freaking threads w/ 10 pages+ |

Do you have a polisher, a da, pads?
I use 3M products combined with Meguiars and Wizard Products. Any severe swirl jobs I work on typically have so much crap in the paint that I cut it with 3000 3M Rubbing compound on a PC electric polisher with a 3M Wool Pad. I use 3M Swirl Remover, sometimes several passes with a black 3m foam waffle pad on the 3m yellow mount. Finishing is obviously based on your choice, but i only do finishing work with a DA and a waffle pad, as I am not capable as some of the folks on here. Short and Sweet - it takes time to get to the point where you can safely and confidently attack bad paint.

if you use the meguire's polishes i'm sure it will be possible by hand but it will take forever. When you get a few extra invest in a polisher. If your really into keeping your nice, it will be a godsend

I have a Flex. it is awesome. I'm sure a porter cable will work fine too. but the flex is way better. The Makita is for serious professionals. You can do a lot more damage with a Makita, which is a rotory, then random orbitals like a flex or a porter cable. If you have a few minutes go over to detailed image. they have a wealth of information. Here's the link
http://www.detailedimage.com/Auto-De...ide/Polishing/ ps. practice on your friends car first. That way you'll be a pro when it comes time to do yours |

Awesome read, but let me make sure I have this all right
-Buy a Flex -Clean and Clay the car -Apply a Rubbing Compound w/ the yellow cutting pad -Apply a Cutting Polish w/ the orange light cutting pad -Apply a Finishing polish w/ the black finish pad -Followed by a simple wax applied by hand w/ a micro fiber towel/polished off with a Blue finessing pad ???? Much appreciated man... |

What are you bumping?
Read one of the hundreds of DIY threads and do it or pay a detailer. I sure wouldn't want to learn to use a PC or Flex on my BMW. |
