Brand New 2010 e92 DEAD
EDIT:
I just got back from the dealer after they gave me the OK to go pickup the car after replacing the HPFP, and now the car has other problems that weren't there before! I don't know what the heck they did, but there is a weird, loud clicking noise coming from the front of the car when breaking slightly hard. I don't know much about cars, but it sounds almost as if the front axle is loose or something. Other than that, it was displaying some TPM messages, which I know won't be too much of a big deal and is probably a programming issue. Still though, this should have been taken care off before they gave me the OK to come in. The noise problem is a scary thing though. Other than that, they gave me another 335xi as a loaner and it feels way better than my car. Much better response when I step on an the gas. I really hope the HPFP replacement makes mine feel as good because right now it looks like I got a "bad egg." I'm pretty frustrated at this point. -------------------------------------------------- Wow, I can't believe this. Went to Whole Foods and got this message on the way out: "Engine Malfunction. Engine operating at reduced output. Possible to continue. Drive with Caution. Have the system checked by the nearest BMW center." Had to call a tow truck as it kept shutting off. I just got the car this month, drove about 1000 miles and the car had 4000 already because it was a demo. Calling my dealer first thing tomorrow morning!

High pressure fuel pump (HPFP) went out. Common (annoying) problem. Dealer should take care of it in one day.
^This is all the n52 guys have on us. I do respect that motor for its reliability and smoothness (my mom's 328i has one), but it seriously cannot even be compared to the n54 IMO.

i would never compare the two. im just tired of the n52 vs n54 threads.
i really feel sorry for all of those who have this issue. its something i feel should have been addressed and solved years ago. |

Agreed...still pain in the ass that a 50-60 K car would be so pathetic with its realibility...I mean the damn thing is brand new.
Its one thing to break down after 5 years...thats expected, electronics going wrong...its another to always be watching your fuel level or your Check Engine Light because the damn powertrain's HPFP is bad. I honestly wished BMW had offered me a 330i in the e90 LCI...I'dve taken that in a heartbeat over the 335ij POS german over-engineering -- still drives well, the trade off is a bitch though |

Yeah...your accord will be a MUCH more reliable car than this...
But let's get real here can you rip an accord to 100+mph without it even breathing hard? I think not.

it was a demo?!? shit, probably the general manager and 50 customers drove teh crap out of the car...
this one time, a lexus dealer was going to sell me a 4000 mile "lightly used" IS-F and they said the general manager drove it to and from work mostly... hah! if anything, the GM could give a shitless about the car and drove these demos to the ground... |

Sure can't. There's always a trade-off isn't there?

Oh my god, I would be so pissed. But like everyone else said, it will probably be an easy fix at the dealer, and personally, I'd much rather drive that beast and have a couple problems here and there than drive a boring, reliable Honda.

glad you see it that way. you'll be happy with your bmw, you have a very positive outlook.
I generally just budget for it...5-7 K over the lifetime of the car (8-10 years). When I bought my car and told the SA that I wanted to keep it for 8-10...he looked at me with shock and disbelief :| |

The reliability of your Honda is now just a dream - your new BMW is more complex, with an obvious consequence. If you want to learn about the high pressure pump problems, read the sticky "HPFP failure FAQ."

I can relate, Nissan for 12 years, zero issues, and only two major repairs, CV joints and exhaust. It's hard but we have to accept that our 335's are not reliable. With that being said, no Honda, Nissan, etc. can compare, so we just go to the dealership, get it fixed, and make the best of it!

HPFP, take it in, get a loaner, should be fixed the same day.
And my old DD '06 Accord V6 had no problem zipping up to 100+. It was the FWD and nose-heavy weight distribution that killed the party in the twisties.
