Vibration at High Speeds
I installed 20mm spacers about a week or so ago
and lately (past 2-3 days) whenever I go over 80 mph, I feel a slight shaking.. I can easily notice it since my V1 shakes to a point where it has never done in any of my previous cars (plus the steering shaking) Now, I was wondering if it's the spacers... they are the only variable I can think of The bolts are tight.... i don't know the brand of the spacers Thanks for any input.

Maybe you need an alignment but just adding spacers shouldn't put them that out of spec.

yeh the shop that installed my v714's on my e90 put the spacers on the front instead of back like idiots and it would shake like crazy at 70 mph, took it to another shop and they put them on the rear /problem

they're in the rear, not the front
would I need to realign the car cause of the spacers? if so, I'll just take them off.. I am going to put my stocks back on and test it out to see if that is the problem if the problem persists, then I'll take it to the dealer if it goes away, well, I'll know what the problem was.

take off the spacers and see if it goes away. Also be sure to clean the hub surfaces very well with a wire brush or scotch bright pad before you install spacers. You need to be sure there isn't any debris getting in between the hub and spacer. even a tiny piece of rust stuck between the hub and spacer can cause an imbalance issue at speed.

Also, make sure the spacers do not have burrs and/or nicks. If yes, carefully file them off with a fine file. I have been using 10-12 mm spacers on the rear wheels on my two last cars and never experienced any disbalance. |

Just wondering the outcome of this. I have the exact same problem with my 135i with the stock 18" rims (i.e. no spacers). With the wheels recently balanced, could the problem be an irregularity on the wheel where it meets the hub?

Bought it used and experienced the problem driving it home from the lot. IF my rims are bent, they were bent when they sold me the car... Of course since you said beautiful rims I'm assuming you are referring to the OP

maybe the spacers aren't hubcentric?

I had the same problem with my spacers. Its seemed that they would accentuate any slight off balance in my wheels.
1. Professionally re-balance your wheels (after you clean them). 2. Clean all the metal to metal surfaces that the spacers touch with a wire brush and use some light auto grease or WD40 before re-installation. If the spacers are off brand then you may look into the possibility of them being warped. |

Your wheels weren't balanced properly. If possible try to find a shop that have wheel on the car balancer. Be aware when wheels get balanced on the car if at any time they're taken off and put back on they'll need to be re-balanced.
And/or the wheels you've purchased were used... might be bent.

Well the rims didn't cause a problem before.
Drove the car at speeds well over 100 I actually haven't gone past 80 yet. Been out of commision due to surgery I do think it's prly the spacers. But my friend had no problem with them

Do get your tire balance checked at good tire shop. I had a similar problem that you've described when I was running spacers and it turned out to be my wheel balance was slightly off when I bought wheels originally. GL
