The number of D's seems to be racking up

I've seen a few parked here and there around the DC area, but yesterday I saw one on the road for the first time, a red one with standard wheels.

The guy was in the right lane driving down 270. I cruised past him at about 5 over and gave him a thumbs up; I guess he was equally surprised to see my D badge, because he swung to the left lane and gave his car a spanking. DAMN it was impressive watching it accelerate from the outside.

In any case, this is now the 5th 335d I've seen in a span of about 7 months (yes I'm keeping track). Put it down to chance, or maybe people are finally coming to their senses and buying this exceptional machine!

Still no road sitings for me, and I *know* there are people in the area that have em.

Wish some of you SD people with d's would come to the meets. :P

I drove one last year and was very very impressed! It was the torque monster it was advertised to be. I Think it puts out as much as a hemi they slap in Ram Pickup truck!

My driving day is mostly short trips and given our countries limited capacity to refine I can't see the economics of diesel. If we process more diesel we then short the supply of gasoline which would raise its price. Given the majority of engines run on gas I can't see us changing anytime soon.

But we should!!!

If I were a road warrior piling on hwy miles, and the economics aside the "d" is a great choice!

Almost enough to make me forgo a Manual transmission!

Good luck with it!

The only D I have seen was a 320D in Aruba while I was on vacation. No D here in Philly or Jersey, that I've seen.

Man, I thought this topic was about something completely different...

I must be spending way too much time in Belarus' thread lately...

I've seen a bunch around this area also. I saw a few at BMW of Fairfax in their lot so I'm not surprised, nice to see them becoming popular!

I think many americans still have the mindset that diesel = black smoke coming out of a truck. It'll only be a few years before they realize that diesel is much better than gas.

I have seen two since I got mine in May 09. One on the road with an out of state plate, the other parked around town which looked like one of the orginal ones given to dealerships because it was silver and few options.

It would be cool to start a D spotting thread, but I don't think it would be a good idea in this group.

How much do you pay for a full tank of diesel and what mileage do you get?

I've been getting right around 33mpg driving 65-35% highway-city. The cheapest diesel I've found is just 2 minutes from my house, and at $2.80 per gallon it's actually 10 cents cheaper than their premium.

Haven't seen a D in person yet. I'd love to get one, but I'm only looking at used now and they are still well out of my price range. Although, if I'm getting 33mpg, that might make it well worth it. I drive 80 miles a day for work, pretty much all at highway speeds, so it would benefit me quite a bit.

Oh, driving that much highway you'd be getting well over 33mpg; during longer highway stints I've seen it get up to 38mpg. If I drive more carefully I can imagine easily breaking 40mpg.

Good luck shopping for it used, though. Historically diesels hold their value very well. The diesel VW's, for example, have barely lost $1000 since they were new.

911 Turbo has 480lb/ft of torque, so no...not quite that much. :P Plus, they also have an overboost that pushes it to 516lb/ft.

It must be horrible watching some guy spanking his diesel to the pitiful 5000RPM redline.

Was that a jab or insult somewhere in there?

Try test driving one before you make comments like that.
