“Four-Door Firepower" R&T Comparison Test

Interesting article from the March 2010 Road &Track (see attached link).

http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/co...door-firepower

They shouldn’t have included AWD vs. RWD vehicles in the test though…

If you read the end of the article, three of the four editors didn't chose the S4 and mentioned they prefer RWD.

My take is that the S4 doesn't generate the same level of love.

Yes, they also called the 335i a "pure rear-driver with power, poise and precision".

The E90 335i is quite a bit cheaper than the S4 too...

IM sure we are all rooting very hard for the BMW!

Im blown away by the price difference! That S4 is a wee bit higher!!!!

It was also a bit porky in comparision!

At those prices your not getting much in options on the BMW while the Acura is loaded all the way up.

The Acura and Infinity are both not turbo cars.

Too many apples and oranges! BUt nice cars all of them!

another rwd awd clusterfudge article full of journalist bias and predjudice. they prefer rwd cars and yet find that the awd car in the contest is the winner and has the fastest lap time.

That's simply because RWD *feels* better. It is not bias or prejudice, just a fair observation, supported by 15 years of comparaison.

Don't forget the $10,000 price difference too!

yes I'm sure 100% of people feel that rwd feels better and was handed down by God himself.

Kind of an old video but still proves a good point!

I see some suspiciously fast times in that test, for all the cars involved. Look at the TL - that 1/4 mile is .7 seconds and 4mph faster than their previous test! The G37 is also faster by .3 seconds and 3mph, as is the S4. Maybe they were running downhill or something.

weather conditions, track surface, etc can all have effects on performance. The previous tests could have been done in the summer on a different track.

The S4 is a good car; I test drove one at Audi along with an S5 (V8 engine) yesterday. I was blown away by the grip at launch but I have to admit I prefer RWD and I could tell it weighed a lot more than the nimbler 335
