2011 335d M-Sport Initial Impressions
Please see my full up review here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7024148
Initial impressions: The new 688 Harman Kardon system is the Logic 7 System rebadged. you get the standard options treble/bass balance/fader equalizer and only one option for Logic 7, on or off. Gone are the various L7 modes of the previous system. I used the following eq with L7 on and was extremely happy with what I heard. (Primarily rock music) Treb +3 Bass +5 Fad -3 100 +2 200 -4 500 -4 1k -6 2k -7 5k -4 10k max positive Now for what everyone has been waiting for... You owe it to yourself to drive this car!! Upon first start up you hear the normal diesel sound but once out on the road you will forget you are driving a diesel and find yourself saying "holy f***ing torque" If you are a stoplight hero this car is not for you. (Though a 0-60 of 5.3, as claimed from Road and Track, is very good for a Diesel.) From a roll (ie on the highway) however, it's a whole new ball game. This engine simply goes, with the torque and grunt of a V8. The turbo setup does have a slight tinge of turbo lag but well within acceptable limits. Passing is truly an after thought with no need to downshift. Handling is well planted and the run flats are much more comfortable than previous cars I have driven. Looks like the run-flat tires and suspension setups are finally playing nice. I really wish BMW would have come out with this engine much sooner. It's that good! That's it for now. More to follow after this weekend's trip. As always feel free to ping me with any 2011, 335d, etc questions you have and I will do my best to answer them. Yes that is a S1000RR For more pictures please see my other ordering thread. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=351852 Last edited by Kamando; 03-30-2010 at 01:26 PM.. |

Congratulations on your new 335d !!! You should have much fun driving it on high speed Euro highways and enjoying the copious amounts of torque as you blast past other vehicles.
Having had a previous 335iC, I too can attest to the ease with which the 335d accelerates on the highway and the intensity of being pressed into the driver's seat is like no other BMW that I have driven. Good on you for getting the M Sport package - looks very cool !

One thing - this engine has been out for a while. I had a 535d for a short while over 3 years ago.

Congrats on the car, you must have the first 2011 on the forum. Can you comment as to whether it looks like your idrive will read text messages, and whether or not the car now has bluetooth audio as speculated by Edmunds?

+1. Congrats OP! Can you also comment if the car has the Sachs damper control for the suspension as it was mentioned by the review by Edmunds for the 2011 E92/E93 LCI. Also does the Harmon/Karmon badge also appear on the rear speakers or just the front speakers?

Congrats! What a great exterior/interior color choice!
When accelerating from a stop, do you feel a difference, torque-wise, between the 335d and your previous 335i? I'm wondering if you can feel the higher torque on the d from a stop/ in low speed situations as well.... Thanks.

Thanks for the damper pic, I'll take pic of mine later today to compare. (Mines a 1/10 Build) Lucky you got the "good" paddles, don't like the dual-purpose paddles. I agree with the torque issue. Lucky for you, you have much better speed limits. I find myself on the freeway going about 65 and then put the pedal to about 50% to pass somebody on the left, next thing I know, my warning chime is going off (my warning is set at 90mph as my car is still in break-in).

Kamando,
Thanks for the info on the HK, so the HK is almost like the old E46 version where there was a button you could choose for either HK on or off. I have a few questions, so you wrote: Gone are the various L7 modes of the previous system. I used the following eq with L7 on and was extremely happy with what I heard. (Primarily rock music) then you listed your settings. Did you mean to say above...."I used the following eq with the HK". I was confused whether you could use these specific setting on the new HK. So using CD's how is the clarity of the HK system. So if you were happy with the Logic then you would be happy with the HK? Do you know if the manual indicates the watts power and # of speakers? I also wonder if you could get a closer pic of the steering wheel showing the new paddles, I can't really see the difference between the 2010 and 2011 although I haven't seen a close enough pic to see. Thanks again |

Here is a better pic of the shift paddles. The left is downshift and the right is upshift. They are pull only paddles. You cannot press them from the front. The M-Sport steering wheel has the thumb rests as you can see in the pic. I find them to be a nice addition and do not mind giving up the ability to push on the paddles. Awesome - enjoy your new ride!
I just wish they offered this car with a manual . . .
