Side mirrors randomly tilting

First off, let's be clear, I'm not referring to the "call up" feature or anything related to having 2 drivers and 2 keys or the reverse tilt feature. I am the only one driving my car and have been using the same key.

Basically my passenger side mirror will randomly decide to either a) tilt to the sky or b) tilt to the ground. I can't isolate exactly how or even when it's happening but I'll go to change lanes and realize i can't see anything. Sometimes I can hold my seat program button and it will go back to normal, but sometimes it's like my seat button has lost its setting for the passenger side mirror completely and I have to manually adjust it (everything else is fine, including driver's mirror).

Last night I actually noticed my passenger mirror would move when I pushed the lock/unlock button on the dash ( however, this is also not consistent).

Any ideas what this could be guys. I don't have time to take it into the dealer for a while, and especially if I cant' even tell them when its happening.

thanks in advance!

I know when the mirror adjust switch is to the left it tilts down when you back up so parallel parking is easier. Sounds like a short. Do you know if any water has come into contact with the motor? I would let the dealer check it out, especially if you're under warranty.

not sure if this is the problem, but it could be the side mirror drive. I had the same problem on my 335 on the driver's side and the dealer took care of it. I remember seeing a post that had this info but i'm not sure if that was the exact problems. Anyway, can't hurt to go to dealer and ask

+1

I had this happen to me once a few months back...was in reverse and when I switched back to D, the mirror tilted back up, UP all the way to the sky lol.

Thanks triplefive for the tip! I'll keep that in mind if it does it again (has only happened once the three years I've owned it)
