Clutch Pedal Buzz - Normal??

I am wondering if it is normal to have engine buzz feedback to the clutch pedal? I can feel it if I rest my foot on the clutch pedal when released. Mostly during acceleration and deceleration. Basically I can somewhat feel the engine through the clutch pedal.

Thanks

How much can you feel it? In most manual's I've driven I can sort of feel the engine vibration but it's not a whole lot. If it's like...really prominent then it's probably a problem.

Thanks!!

It's a buzz that follows with engine speed. Not what I would call a vibration or a shake. Engagement is smooth.

I am wondering if others pedals feel dead or have some engine / drivetrain feedback

Mine absolutely has some drivetrain feedback, which is entirely normal. If it's vibrating like hell or making an audible noise, something is wrong. Aside from that, some vibration is normal.

Unless its a porsche, it should not be vibrating like crazy.

Both the clutch and the 6MT shifter will have some mild vibration associated with the drivetrain/engine. BMW has a luxury/daily driver clutch.

Again Thanks!!

Mine has like you described some mild vibration / engine feedback with aggressive acceleration.

No crazy noises or extreme vibrations.

Just wanted to make sure it was OK.

Hi,

Consider how the drivetrain is set up:

The flywheel is rotating at engine RPM and when the clutch is out (up), the pressure plate and disc are also rotating at engine RPM with the flywheel.

The throw-out bearing, which presses the tines on the pressure plate to disengage the disc, is normally not touching the tines.

When you press the pedal, even lightly, the throw-out bearing advances forward and touches the tines. The contact transfers slight rotary vibration to the bearing, and through the hydraulic system and other mechanical connections, that is transmitted to the pedal.

You may have noticed that if you press the pedal further, the vibrations go away for the most or are significantly reduced. That's because the firm contact between the bearing and tines takes up any play in the bearing and it settles down somewhat.

In a nutshell, it's normal. If you have a bent tine, you will feel much more and possibly hear it as well. Otherwise, I'd say you're in good shape.

Regards,
Adnan
