Difference between MT in AWD & RWD?
I recently purchased my first manual AWD car.... i know that obviously it will be different because your powering all 4 wheels instead of 2.. but i mean the difference is HUGE. driving manual has become a pain in the ass with the AWD... compared to my 335i which was a breeze. shifts are not nearly as smooth and neither is take off.
Anyone experience both cars in manual? Xi % i? that can comment.....

Not driving all bmw's, but my old jetta was front wheel drive manual, and my 330xi I see a huge diff with taking off. I've driven my friends e92 328i mt, and it was just diff, I didn't do hard launches but it just felt different from my xi.
It takes time to get the take off down in the awd.

Wouldn't the biggest difference be going from the 335 motor to the 328 and not so much the drivetrain?

Try to apply your clutch from take off with revs at around 2000...you really need to time your shifts precisely with the AWD MT. You need more practice.i Edit: Oh if you have the 328...thats different, it has a very small engine...and throwing that reduced power (v. 335) to all four wheels might affect your take off and response. I'd imagine its less noticeable in a powerful car like AWD 335. |

Coming from a 01 330ci e46
I think the manual is an improvement over that as the Shift Throws are shorter and more snappy. There is a clutch valves that can be modified that can give you a better clutch feel I have seen on these boards. Its taken me some time to get familiar with the 6 speed feel and shift pattern and to find out the right number of Revs to keep the Engine at for a spunky feel.

I came from driving a manual Jetta 2.0T and now on my 328 Xi. I dont have issues with it at all. Took me a while to figure out the shift points for consistent power delivery but its fine.
Been driving manual all my life and I love it. |
