shift knob trim
Hey all, i've noticed that the overlay over my shifter in my 335 is starting to go away. it looks old, faded, and not pleasing at all. only thing i've been able to find (other than replacing the whole thing through bmw, which i won't do) is this on bimmian http://www.bimmian.com/92/CKT/ . i like the idea, but don't want the carbonfiber trim, would rather prefer something that looks more OEM or at least a matte or solid color. thanks.
also, the glossy area around the steering wheel has the same problem... my old E90 had this problem but i didn't care because it a lease. dealership said it was standard wear. |

Is your car under warranty? The dealer should be replacing peeling trim with no questions asked.

Go and see your dealer about the knob.
I had the exact same thing, and they've replaced it with the newer model. You don't specify if your is an AT, but I've assumed so by the link you've provided. If your knob has the upper part (just over the depress button to unlock the lever) peeling off and sharp (like you could cut yourself on it), they replaced it free because of a technical bulletin (like a recall, but on non-dangerous parts). I have now the newest shift knob, and it looks good. Don't know for the steering garnment. But should cost nothing to ask...

sweet thanks. only problem is my car is over the 50k slightly and i have opted to go for a 3rd party warranty, and not with bmw, which had better coverage imo. is this part replacement extended to higher mileage like the hpfp by any chance?

Nothing will be easiest than to go ask or better cal the dealer if he's not near home. And ask at least 2 dealers if the 1st one says it's not covered. GL with the claim !

It probably won't be covered. If you're very close to 50k, see if your dealer would do a goodwill replacement of the part. It's possible, no guarantees though.
