Engine Misery
I have had all kinds of problems with my 2007 e92 over the last six weeks. It started with checking a ticking noise that someone advised me was probably coming from the turbos. Service department went through the software updates, then changing the waste gates, and now both turbos have been changed but I just fired off the Engine Malfunction alert after only 200 miles on the new turbos.
Has anyone else seen or heard of this? Any ideas what BMW's next steps/repairs might be? |

Pardon the next part as I am a noob to conversations about the finer parts of an engine. The dealer did one software update and that didn't work. They they went after the wastegate actuator and surrounding hoses. That resolved the ticking. Then I had the first Engine Malfunction error. Thought it was them not putting everything back properly. They found a cracked vacuum hose/tube. Replaced that and they still got the error. They did two more software updates. They thought about changing the DME but were waiting on the BMWNA techs. BMW had them change both turbos and send the old ones in for review. Changing out the turbos is a pretty massive jump so with all the other back and forth I was stuck with a loaner for over two weeks. Picked the car up two days ago and right back to square one..... Ugh. |

not sure about the next step. You have the car at steve thomas? If so, you are in good hands. Procedure wise for ticking is software, wastegates, turbos, next will probably be cylinder head. Hope you get it fixed!

Not sure what the problem is but I am pretty confident BMW will get it figured out. At least you got a bunch of free new parts I guess. Let us know what they find out. Best of luck

Just got word from the Service Dept. It's something completely new and unrelated: The Variable Cam Positioning. It fired off and cut power in half. Never much fun. Get it back in a day or two.

Maybe it's a combination of HPFP and injector problem?
