Jack-point blocks DIY
I'll admit this is pretty lame, but I made some custom jack point blocks for my e90.
The blocks measure 2.25" x 1.25" to fit inside the jack points and are made of oak plywood (strong and won't crack). I then cut some circular blocks to fit in my old floor jack to put underneath the blocks. This will prevent cracking the wood. I threw a couple of these jack point blocks in my trunk, in case I was at the road side and needed to jack my car with a regular jack (I don't have the bmw jack kit and live 400 km from the dealer). Give yourself some credit. This is a great idea. Thanks for the measurements and material choice.

Plywood sounds like a good idea.
I made the same blocks from some leftover soft wood and it's holding up so far if I use another piece like you on the jack.

I bought a $2 hockey puck and cut it to fit the jack points. The hard rubber barely deforms at all.

For some reason my floor jack's claw only bit into the jack points on the passenger side of the car, for some reason the driver's side points sidn't crack at all.
Great idea on the hockey puck though, I'll most certainly pick one up and hack it to the right dimensions.

Aluminum 6061 in my setup. Took some pics.. It works perfectly, I just need to find some time to put on the winter tires (and the desire too, I like the 161's a lot better than my 156's!! )

hahaha, this is not lame at all. The aluminum is probably the best one so far but a block of wood would do the trick.

Please make a few of the aluminum ones and sell them to e90post members .... please please please.
The base might need to be shortened up for lowered cars though. bmwmike ... what is that? |

Assuming half of the weight of the car on this block (which isn't likely at all), the safety factor is around 60. Would probably last much further than that as well. I think it should do the trick..

I don't think it will do what you want. The picture is of a slightly older version of the platform support which is the piece attached to your car that you are trying to fit something into. The center pin pushes in to lock the support to the car. Lou Last edited by voerman; 11-21-2006 at 07:07 AM.. |
