Anyone in Denver area with P3/Rixster Boost Gauge?

Any one in the Denver area running the P3/Rixster vent boost gauge?

The product looks great, wondering if anyone locally has purchased it and done the install?

Also, if you have installed it, what kind of boost readings did you get? Stock? Tuned?

Interested in this as well. Especially what we are boosting stock, lol.

I'd prefer this, that digital gauge just doesn't look right in a car with all analog dials.

Sorry to jump in

Doing a quick search I found half a dozen customers in the Denver area who have purchased the gauge... so you should be able to find someone...

As for stock boost, depends on ambient temp, but you should see between 7-9psi with peaks about 1psi higher than that. 8.5psi on average. The n54 boosts lower with cold air and higher with hot air (hot air is less dense with oxygen, so it compensates with more boost to keep tq consistent).

Keep the round pegs out of a square hole! Go digital!

Rick, no disrespect your gauge is a great choice.

The round peg in a square hole cracked me up!

Rixster, are you running any specials on the gauges?

Thanks Rick for jumping in.

I'll probably need to just order it and get numbers for myself. So I am little confused on what we will see at 5,000 feet, the actual boost that is being delivered compensating for altitude or something else? So if the ECU is compensating, we should expect to see something like 8.5-11 depending on ambient temps? And then of course I am curious how that changes when a mild tune is added, such as a SSTT or JB+.

Also, I see on your web site you are out of stock, any ideas on when these will be available? I really like your design and respect the engineering you have put into this, i'd hate to have to put a round peg into a square hole!

We have some in stock, (10 or so) that could ship as early as Tuesday of next week.... (the boss, aka, wife, suggests I take a break from shipping for the weekend to prepare for my 2nd son to be born, he is due in under 60 days... )

shipped well over 100 gauges in dec/jan so I am just re-stocking and rebuilding for these last couple weeks, but we still have some gauges in stock.

As you mentioned, In hot weather at high altitude you will see up to 11psi stock according to the N54 technical docs. I would be interested to see that actually in action! I think everyone would be interested to see your results!

As for paying less than full price... PM me

I learned the round peg square hole problem back in kindergarten with the wooden blocks... still can't bring myself to go against that.

All joking aside... The Turner/ECS/Helix/Etc. (they all seem to sell the same unit) is a nice peice... it just doesn't look OEM to me... if you look at your entire dash... round needle gauges belong in the cluster, everything outside the cluster is digital... our gauge follows that rule.

To each his own... some people will stick with analog forever... it's all good

When I get my gauge, this is the gauge I am getting.

As for boosting stock...we can get 100 degrees and be at altitude...which has been my questions all along for the tuners and I have never got a straight answer as to what kind of boost we will see. If my tune is to run 13psi, and its hot and we are high...then my car wont really feel any faster during the summer since I was boosting 11 already. Its just confusing to me....I know our turbos will spin harder up here as well.

Oh well...Forza's getting the V4 and he just needs to start datalogging for us

That's why I have always felt for us at high altitudes, it is best to first remove the restrictions (IC, catless DPs, Intake) and allow the turbos to breathe easier than just to add power. We get to the point where the turbos have to work so hard to hit their boost targets up here because of the thin air that they work outside of their efficiency range, really diminishing power returns.

The reason we boost more though is because our ATM pressure is lower, so to hit the same overall boost target of ATM(14.7psi @ STP) + the boost pressure (~8psi stock) at sea level, we have to boost to ATM(12.2psi) + ~10-11psi at 5000ft to get the same overall stock manifold pressure.

At 10K ft elevation we would have to boost ATM(10.1psi) + ~13psi! to hit stock manifold pressure.

And that doesn't obviously include the temperature factor, but you get the idea.

Yup, and thats what kills us. Thats what makes me feel mad about the tuners not helping with...even GIAC couldnt answer me about high altitude.

This is why though that Im going *milder* with my tune, stage 1, and turning down the boost in 1st, 2nd, and keeping the boost to 13psi or so. I figure Ill take the better throttle response and slight increase in power at least and when I can then get the DP's...IC and so on....

I think these our little turbos though can probably take quite a decent beating...since BMW is now offering a 14.5psi overboost spike STOCK, they know they can last at least 50k and probably 100k easily (CPO) car. At least that is what I am thinking.

But no one has a boost gauge here to see what we are actually getting stock? I know today you would get lower then in June but would still be interesting to see.

Hey Guys I am new to the forum. Does installing this gauge give any error messages? I have a 2008 335xi sedan. Thanks.

This one made me laugh Videsh.

So a quick overview, this gauge has a power wire and a vacuum hose. Absolutely no connection to the computer so no error messages.

probably not around here, go check out the east coast area, you are in the colorado section

The installation looks pretty easy so you can probably do it yourself and save some money on installation.
