NorCal / SoCal split

How about splitting the California forum into NorCal and SoCal forums?

Are you for it?

I think it should be split.

These are supposed to be "Regional" forums. Northern California and southern California are completely different regions.

Northern California people aren't usually interested in dealers, shops, meets and other things in southern California and vice versa. If we want to look for something specific, we can check out the other forum if they are split.

Just look at the titles of the current threads. They are relevant to EITHER northern or southern California but not both.

Actually, there are some folks that commute from North to the South and vice versa. LTBMW stretches from socal to norcal. Even better yet, why won't you pm Shragon or Long Tran about the idea? They are moderators to this forum for Cali...

True, but most of us stay in either northern or southern California and we want to view threads that are relevant to our areas. If you take your argument further, we wouldn't have regional forums so everyone could see Shragon's and Long Tran's threads.

Let's see what others think...

There would be more threads and more postings from northern California if we had our own forum.

As it stands now, the California forum is mostly a southern California forum because the vast majority of threads only apply to southern California.

Oregon is closer to us in the SF Bay Area than L.A.

i guess if someone mostly stays within their respective regions it would make sense that they would want to only view threads that applies to their location i.e norcal/socal. However there's a good amount of people who are willing to travel down south or up north if a special event is going on such as LTBMW meet, HP autowerke grand opening, bimmerfest, etc..

I think it's just easier to be able to see all that in the same section instead of having to for example click in the socal thread to see what's going on or even in an "events" section of the forum. I dunno, I think it's just more simple the way it is.

If the chat threads of norcal compared to socal is any indication of what it'd be like, there's be nothing in the norcal section. lol

don't think there's a need to split. i'll admit i usually only look at SoCal threads cause they're more relevent to me, but i definitely go through more NorCal threads than any other state. not really fair to blame lack of NorCal threads/posts on california being one entity. there's nothing stopping you from posting. distance isn't everything; not sure how much you post in Oregon, but NV is closer to me than NorCal and I rarely read/post in that region.

There's doesn't seem to be much support for splitting the forums. That's fine if that's what people want.

Many of us in the north don't follow this forum because it seems like the vast majority of threads are only relevant to people that live in the south. Here's the current top 10 threads, excluding the sticky ones. The only thread that applies to the north is this one.

yeah socal is usually more active as far as things going on regarding e9x's. But that's just socal for you. My guess is that there are a lot more modded e9x's down there than up here.

No, it would be pointless because the Norcal section would be empty. It's not that there is an overwhelming amount of Socal threads that are pushing out all of the Norcal threads. It's just there's nothing going on in Norcal.

It looks like this idea is "going down to defeat".

I withdraw it.

It would be cool if it were split, just so i don't have to look through all the socal threads to find out what's going on in Norcal.

Most of the norcal modders are are interlinked together, if something is happening it travels via Text message faster than logging into the forum :P just my experience from when i lived up there.

i think it's fine to leave it as one section. If you ever have the chance to meet and put faces to the names of either socal or norcal, it just makes sense to keep it as one. I don't know if others will want to isolate themselves from one region or another. Alot of people here travel up and down and it's nice to be in the know of what's going on if you plan on making a trip.
