Overseas Highway to Key West
I've never been to Florida before and I'm likely to end up spending some time there in November. I'll mainly be on South Beach Miami but I'm looking for a good excuse to rent a convertible and explore outside of Miami. I was looking at the Overseas Highway as possible choice. I'm just wondering if some locals here might have some opinions or recommendations on where to go/drive?
Thanks guys.

It's pretty, but not a terribly good drive. It's incredibly jammed with traffic especially in the winter, as it's a very popular destination for snowbirds. Last December, it took me 3 hours to go 70 miles from Miami to Marathon Key.
However, Key West is a really wonderful place from Nov-Feb, and the weather is usually spectacular.

Hmm... the idea of spending an hour to get to Key Largo and then another possible 2-3 hours to get to Key West is starting to sound iffy...

. . . or 4-5 hours to get to Key West from Miami. It's the kind of place you go to stay for awhile, not to drive around.

+1 Just don't go on a Friday afternoon, Saturday AM or return on a Sunday and you'll be fine traffic wise.
Stop at the Fish House in Key Largo for some lunch and the Key lime pie factory just down the street for dessert. In Key west, rent some scooters to explore the island and easily find parking around the gazillion bars/ pubs. Another option I like to use to get to Key west on long/ holiday weekends is a quick flight from MIA or even Opa-Locka executive airport has charters (usually less than 45 mins and less than $100 pp)
