I haven't tried my tool yet but I'm pretty sure the OBDII tool I've used on all my other cars will work on my 128i. It is an inexpensive unit from Harbor Freight. I think it was about $50. Individual car manufacturers use their own codes but most are generic. And the OBDII interface is required by U. S. law to be the same on all vehicles I believe. So I think any scan tool that says it is OBDII compatible will work. My Harbor Freight resets codes as well as scans.
