"Save Name" Voice Command not available

I have not been able to get the "Save Name" command to work.

I have Nav, Bluetooth and Voice. My Phone is a BlackBerry which works fine, just is braindead about phonebook transfering so entering numbers into the personal phone book is important. I have tried a Motorola V550 and it does not work for "Save Name" either. The phonebook transfers fine, tho...

When I ask for "Options" in the Telephone screen I do not get "Save Name" as an option. Oddly, I get "Dial Name" - as there does not appear to be a way to save the name first.

First, is anyone else having this issue?
Second, when the "Save Name" command works, is it a choice when you say "Options"?

Thanks

first, push the voice dial button, then say "save name" follow the prompt and when done say " save"

Then you'll be able to push the voice button, say dial name, then say the name you've stored

I have tried this (about a hundred times) and no dice... It does not recognize "Save Name"... Anyone know how to say this in German?
Does yours have "Save Name" as a choice when you say "Options" in the Telephone menu?

The command in the manual say to use "Store Name" not "Save Name" but I am sorry to report that mine is not working either - I tried to use both Store and Save - worked one time with Store but never again !

Sorry - it seems that the info in the manual is incorrect. Take a look at this thread:

When I SAY: <TELEPHONE><OPTIONS>
I HEAR: [TOP 8], [REDIAL], [A-Z] (all on screen)... and [Dial Name] (not on screen)...
But no [SAVE NAME]...

Oh, my car won't recognize options but it does recognize help

and your phone is connected (icon of phone when you hit the menu button on top right of dash, rather than 2 dashes) when you're doing this right

I wonder if your phone is on the "supported list"

BlackBerry 7100t is not "officially supported" but works fine... I also have a Motorola V550 that is "supported" but has the same issues. When I say <HELP> it tells me to use <OPTIONS>... Sounds like I may have different software than ward does... I am going in next week and talk to a service guy...

Does anyone know how to find a version number for softwre in the iDrive?

Kind of ironic that my first generation BT module accepts all voice commands perfectly. Can the dealer be of any help?

In the shop today - they are going to look at it.
(Also add factory alarm...)
All other voice commands work - just not "SAVE NAME"...

Quite right, this is missing from mine too. Hopefully the Sept upgrade will fix.

Fix for Save Name

My manual has the ffg process for saving telephone names _ nos:

"Save Name"
Say number
"Save Number"

But I found that Save Number function does not work. All you do is after you saythe number, just say "Save" and teh system stores the number

So:
Do

"Save Name"
wait for system to recognise name and asks for number, then say numbers and when it recognises numbers;
"Save"

It works well.

Well... No dice. The dealer could not figure it out.
All software patched to the latest version but still does not work.
They have opened a case with BMW.

Is anyone with NAV and iDrive able to use voice dial by name?
I am beginning to think this is a NAV and iDrive "feature" like not being able to play MP3s....

Works with non-iDrive, but not in iDrive cars. Maybe this will be fixed in a software release.

Here is the good news. If your phone's phonebook transfers to the car, and the names are reasonably easy for a computer to pronounce, you should be able to dial by name by saying the text name phonetically. For example if you have an entry for "John Smith", just speak "dial john smith". It should find the entry and ask for confirmation, then you speak "yes" if it got the right one.

As has been said before... unfortunately there should be a second address list, maintained in the car's phone electronics as opposed to the sim card, which is voice entered and voice recalled. Thus names with ambiguous pronunciations like "Ian" can be recognized. I have also reported this via dealer to BMW, but no response yet.

I just got my Nokia 3650 to pair with my car! Yay! There is no transfer of my phonebook in the phone to the car which I expected based on all I've read. I have I-Drive so I guess there's no way to save names or numbers in the I-Drive itself.....right? So all I basically have until I get a new more compatible phone is a $43,000 speakerphone?

OK - got the "official answer" from BMW. Since the Nav system cars "read" the names from your phonebook, and you can dial those names via voice, they don't support the "save name" feature... They obviously did not think about phones that do not support phonebook downloads. There is no plan to fix this - except in the owners manual...
