Exclamation PROcede Suggested Settings

Been getting a few emails asking for suggested settings. So here's a little info that might help you guys out.

We all know how to maximize power/safety by using datalogs to "dial in" your Ign Correction % and User Torque. That's all covered in The Basic Tuning Guide.

But here are some simple setting that might just suit some of your needs.

1) If you want to make an "M Sport" setting for your PROcede, just set the User Adjustables up as follows and use your DTC button to swap between the two (assuming you are running on the beta firmware which enables DTC mapswitching). Set Throttle Response in Map1 to be "2" and Map2 to be "5". Map2 will be MUCH more response than Map1 which, itself, will behave like previous tunes. If Map1 is still too "happy", you can reduce max boost targets by dropping User Torque. Every 10% reduction will drop boost by approx 1psi.

2) If you want to set up Map2 to be a dedicated meth/race gas map, set Ignition Correction to 0% (full advance) and raise User Torque by 15% over the default settings. This means Stg 3 guys will run 100% UT. Stg 2 and Stg 1 95 and 85% respectively. If Stg 2 and Stg 1 guys want to run higher UT %, they can but it's best to confirm that doing so does not result in a too aggressive tune (see Basic Tuning Guide). Of course, it should go without saying, only this map when running on race gas (unleaded).

3) If you want valet mode to be speed limited to ~35mph, go to User Maps and select Valet Speed Limit Adjustment. Setting it to 25% will reduce max allowable speed to 25% of your original speed limit. 25% of 155mph=39mph. 25% of 130mph=33mph. Of course, you can use any adjustment factor your want. When the valet speed is reached, the throttle simply shuts down not allowing any more acceleration.
Note: This feature was temporarily disabled for the beta guys running the new DTC mapswitching feature. It will be re-enabled when we release the new software that has 4 adjustable maps with methanol control.

4) If you live in slipper conditions (wet/snowy/dirty) roads and find yourself spinning your tires too much, you can enhance traction by reducing the boost in first and second gear by adjusting 1st Gear Torque and 2nd Gear Torque in the User Adjustable menu. Setting it to 100% results in no boost/torque reduction. Setting it to 0% results in stock boost/torque. Typically, you want to set 1st Gear Torque lower than 2nd gear due to it's gearing advantage. Of course, if you live in dry conditions, leave them both set to 100% and learn to use your throttle foot better

5) If you live on a race track and you have converted your BMW to a race car with all the appropriate safety equipment, you would probably want to eliminate the factory speed limit (130 or 155mph for Sport packaged cars). To do that, simply put "1" (ON) in the Speed Delimiter parameter (in the User Adjustable menu). With this feature activated, your top speed, depending on mods, can be as high as a GPS verified 195mph. Kinda crazy so don't try top speed runs at home.

Cheers

Kind of off topic but I am wondering with the new map switching firmware whether I can still use the remote control switch to change maps?

Will both methods work concurrently or does the DTC map switching prevent the remote switching?

Haven't had the balls to try it myself for fear of mucking something up.

lol.. right now with the beta DTC switching firmware (that some of you have), the remote control switch is still functional. But only until you do your first DTC mapswitch. And then only DTC mapswitching works until you turn your car off/on again.

With the full release version of the firmware, both DTC and remote control mapswitching works. But the remote control switch will only trigger Map4 (meth map) and not result in a SES flash/display. While DTC mapswitch will allow the user to toggle through valet, map1, map2 and map3 with the SES indicating what map you are on.

The idea behind that is that the remove control mapswitch is going to be fed a signal from a methanol flow detector and will trigger on/off Map4 which is a dedicated methanol map.

For Rev.1 guys, the DTC mapswitch feature isn't available. So you guys will only be able to toggle through Map1 and Map4 which you can still use a automatically triggering Methanol map. No SES light indication of course (no CANbus).

Phew...

So to clarify.....for beta maps only - as long as I don't use the DTC map switch, I can use the remote control repeatedly?

Yes. Might want to very that yourself by watching 'current map selection' and clicking the remote. No harm can come of it either way.

Thanks!

I'll give it a try on the way home from work tonight.

The reason I ask is because I always disengage traction control when I start up the car......if I then pick a map on the fly, I have to disengage traction control once again.

I'm hoping the remote will keep the traction control disengaged persistently.

If the DTC is used now for map switching, then won't it defeat the purpose of the "valet mode"? I mean if the words get out, the valet will know how to switch maps.

Doubtful this would be common knowledge.

+1

Plus I think a Valet would freak out when the start pressing buttons and the CEL starts flashing.

I agree, my regular twisties on the way home were different in drift and acceleration in a big way. Need to lower my torque targets in 1st and
2nd just a bit to fine tune, and upshifting is much improved. I like it. Good job Shiv, I have my Stett pipe and Helix intercooler waiting for the Meth kit and map 4.
Still would like to have my voice comm say Warp drive engaged, can you work that out?

is there a way to completely turn off the tune so it doesnt even flash the engine light for the map its on? Im taking the car into service soon and wanted to completely hide the tune without removing it... the only thing giving it away is the engine light flashes....

Just to be the fly in the ointment. I bought a Procede and had it installed by the local agent in mid-Feb of last year. I had throttle blips from day one. Just driving along I would get a blip forward as the revs jumped up instantly and came back. Not a big problem in 6th but very scary in first in a traffic queue. Many calls and unanswered emails later I got unit number 2 in April installed it and had a new set of problems. The blips were now in both directions, accelerate and decelarate. Then the yellow engine warning light started coming on, then limp mode would shut down the engine. Usually a restart would clear the problem for a short while. Many calls and (unanswered) emails later I removed the unit and went to my local BMW dealer. They printed out 3 pages of error codes with the unit removed. I told them what I had done and they strongly suggested never putting that unit back in the car. So mid August (6 months), two units later I was told by Vishnu I had owned the product too long for a refund. I immediately went to the local Dinan dealer, had the car reset to stock and istalled stage 2 software. I've not had a problem since. With my racelogic and the recently installed stage 3 I have all the performance of the Procede with out the poor customer service and I have a company that truely stands behind the product with a factory matching warranty. I also have a paper wieght with losts of wires coming off it on my desk. So, caveat emptor, and good luck.......

1. Tangent alert
2. Not much credibility with a whopping 2 posts in our forum, mate.
