Voice control, yeah that sux.

I have been playing around with the voice control lately. I have been trying everything from calling people in my contact list to setting up a navigation route. Mind boggling. I would like to meet the QA testers that passed this thing, I bet they are really into smokin some serious reefer.

Everytime I get into my g/f's Acura TSX, I just realized how far behind BMW's navigation system and voice recognition is compared to Honda's system.

The voice recognition and navigation in the newer Acura's are AMAZING.

I have the old iDrive system and the only time I ever have a problem with the voice control is when I talk before the voice icon shows up. The only thing it hangs on is when it tries to recognize strangely pronounced names in my phone book.

In my 2009 335i the voice control works well, but I have no idea what the testers of my car smoked.

Works fine for me, but you need to know the proper commands, and not all commands work from every screen. Are you using the proper voice commands or are you just "talking" to it and hoping it understands you?

For example, if I want to call someone from my phone book, I can't go "Call Mom" because it will go [Sorry, I didn't understand you] or it will do something that's completely unrelated to calling mom. I have to say "Dial name" [Please say the name] "Mom, mobile" [Do you want to be connected to Mom mobile?] "Yes" [Dialing].

Also, when entering address by voice, I find that I have to say "Town" instead of "City" to get to the Town/City entry field because it sometimes misunderstands "City" for "CD" and goes [CD on].

Basically, you can't just speak plain English to it. You have to use very specific key phrases/commands. And speak loudly and clearly.

ive used the voice control in an X5, but only to change the radio station, and a select few audio functions. the only problem i had was that it seemed like it took an eternity to understand me and change the station.

I usually use the voice recognition to change radio stations or switch between audio modes and it works pretty good most of the time. Once in awhile it selects the wrong frequency though (ie. 610AM instead of 680AM or 99.1FM instead of 99.9FM).

yeah voice command in this car totally sucks. It never understands anything and you can only use the key words that are specified otherwise it wont recognize it. I think one of the members took the liberty to post a all the keywords that it does recognize if you do a search.

Mine works good until I am trying to show someone how cool it is. Then it messes up.

Im not satisfied with the bluetooth features of the car, what so ever. a lot of phones sound like shiat in the car for starters. half the time when im taking a call, it wont make the transfer from the phone, to the car...leaving the caller on my cell unit, having to pick it up manually.

I understand, for the mostpart it has a lot to do with the cell phone you have...but they should have incorporated more phones for compatability for their system.

unimpressed.

Being a QA/QC tester for Halliburton, I am appalled at alot of the pragmatic things in our car that just wasn't tested.

I-drive is definitely something that should have gone through a thorough QA/QC procedure....looks like they did that for the revamped i-drive.

the 07 is abysmal. I have to speak in a british accent to get my sat nav to switch to AUX. "Auxiliary"
