Stupid question...Anyone get around alright with a 330i and All-Seasons in snow?

As stated in the question, I am curious how some of you get around in snow without the aid of snow tires. I had a G37 in the past and got around fine with snow tires. I had a 2nd set of rims with the snows and it was a pain to store them and to change them out twice a year. I want an XI but a lot of I's are available in the colors I want.

I just want to know what people have experienced with all seasons. Thanks!

I've had my '06 330i since late 2005 and have driven it through 4 winters here in the great white north... great car and just fine with good snow tires. I have Dunlop wintersports and have been quite happy. The only time you'll have trouble is starting on a steep hill. My new driveway is quite steep and 3 days this year I couldn't get up but that was the only time I had trouble. In all other situations it's great. No need for the XI unless you live in the mountains or get more snow then we do in Canada.

Cheers

If you go xDrive, you should be able to function with all seasons. I'm going to use the stock 17" all seasons on my E90 in a few months and put away the 18s/Performance Tires until Spring.

With RWD, you would be wise to get snows though. They make a tremendous difference - for xDrive cars too. My 750i is terrible in the snow without proper tires. With snows, it's perfectly fine to drive in just about anything. You guys get a good amount of snow in Minneapolis, right?

dont do it. its as bad idea as not searching on this topic

that tire rack video is as real as you can get. thats in a controlled environment and you will have more a-sholes on the road in "real life" driving faster and more stupid. that stopping demo was amazing 2 car lengths

Misread the initial post... definitely need snow tires with the 330i... agree with the above posts... just fine with snows but I wouldn't try it with all-seasons in the winter... you won't be happy.

Sure...

All season tires will work in a pinch but can't really be relied upon unless you like white knuckle driving.

Some folks will tell you that it is no problem and they've driven from NY to Alaska in a snowstorm on summer tires. They did it while watching TV and texting the entire way as well.

That video answers all of your questions - the car with snow turns - the one with all seasons doesn't.

Go home tonight and pull out your insurance paperwork - how much is your deductible? Add the trouble of finding a body shop and lost hours to that (and maybe a visit to the Emergency Room) and decide if that is worth more or less than a set of snow tires...

I had A/S on my G35 and I could not go up moderate inclines with them. In fact, I did a 360 once going about 15MPH. Unfortunately, I had to go to court that day (divorce) and it snowed about 4".
