I am about to purchase VIRAL's car , 330i in great shape but warranty expired.
I have checked around for extended warranty but it is very high and somewhat ambigous.
What would you suggest?

Pass.
Very bad idea to buy BMW's out of warranty.
Just read the threads. I challenge anyone find more problems with any other maker. Out of warranty, you're looking at a money pit. No way.

Though this is my first BMW, I would not agree with the above if you are the original owner. You may have to roll up your sleeves, get a Bentley repair manual, and rekindle your relationships with your auto mechanic in-laws. In other words, if nobody should ever possess a BMW out of warranty, then the G37S is a way better proposition. My Nissan is 178k without any issues and isn't even an Infiniti, so what would an Infiniti be capable of? In such a world, then put up with the V6 vibration and fuel consumption because it will not only save 8k up front but thousands upon thousands down the line...

+1.
BMW's are low on reliability rankings for a reason.
Out of warranty buy an extended warranty.

I personnaly would not buy any Gereman car without a warranty unless you don't care about the cost. They all are very expensive to repair. There are some good independant BMW mechanics that can keep the cost of repairs down, but I would suggest a CPO car just to be safe.

Just an example.

Want to change a head cover gasket? Usually it is like nothing. On this car, prepare to spend 7-800$ just for this as they quote more than 5 hours to do so.

Of course, maybe it will never happen.
