just talked to a guy with ASR turbos and......

So i went to wash my car @ a drive through car wash and i ask thr guy if he knows of any hand car washes in the area then he says why. I said because these drive through car washes scratch the paint ,he says no dont worry about its fine i have a 335i and run it through here all the time i own the place. So i got in a conversation with him and he says he has a turbo uprgrade from ASR with hoosier d/r and 18 enkies wheels so i ask him what the heck did you run in the quarter........... his comment

13.3 @ 125 mph

60 FT edit: 2.7

i was thinking to my self wow the 135i with turbo upgrades ran about the same .What the heck is goin on why are they traping such high Times ?

Well doesn't the 60 ft explain that?

Am I reading that correctly 3.7?!?!

Even a 2.7 60 ft is very high.

If he were to get that down to a 1.9 or 2.0 60 ft that will drop the E.T. by approximately 1.4 seconds or so...... your looking at about 11.9 @ 125 which sounds right to me

How long can those turbos last running 30psi each?

Isn't that trap about what a S/C E9x M3 can do? Approx I mean since none of them have gone to a strip yet.

ASR has no explaining to do... we know zero details about this guys setup. All we know is that he supposedly has a very fast trap speed, but doesn't know how to drive.

Maybe the guy is new to dragracing. Stuff like that depends on the driver.

The only valid test for the turbo upgrade is a dyno.

1/4 mile time is all about the driver.

Guys, the turbos are doing their job as indicated by the 125mph trap speed. Especially in the summer, in Florida. The rest is just driving. I had a chance to drive a 500+whp 135 the last time I was out there and I can vouch or their being absolutely no traction in the first 3 gears at WOT. It takes a sensitive right foot to get out of the whole fast and some people really don't care about drag racing. But yes, that car is likely capable of low 11s/high 10s with chassis prep and solid driving.

well from what he was telling me he showed me his turbod honda civia via his camera phone and told me he was running 9.9 @ 140 mph so it seems he may have an idea about how to launch a car.I asked him if he knew about e90post and he said he has heard of it. But sounded like he knows his shit.

Take into account, if the driver ran a 13.3 with a 2.7 60ft he really is not the best driver in the world so you can't really base everything on a supposed run... or he just could not get the power to the ground...

lol......if you think the guy knows his shit and knows how to drive you are smoking something. Either that or he is just bs'ing you.

a 2.7 60 ft is HORRIBLE

a 125mph trap speed is far from horrible

for those of you who think a turbo upgrade = low et's you are showing your noobishness to fast cars. More power does not always mean better/lower et's. At that point, it takes a big helping of the driver mod to make any difference.

yeesh......this forum is turning into stupidville sometimes.

cmon sniz i wanna put you in a 45o whp bmw and see if you could handle it in all honesty having a turbo upgrade requires a lSd . In other threads i have posted saying lsd in pointless with our snails but when you throw some of these asr's on its a different story.

Guys obviously this guy was getting bad launches/traction. I ran a dynolicious (iPhone app) on the street with 275/35/18 Falkens in my 300zx with about 460 to the wheels and It recorded 14.4 1/4 mile but said I had 500hp because of the acceleration after I got traction. Power is useless if you can't hook up, but it sure is fun!

no worries....I have my own w that much power and soon to be more

and yes, having an LSD is a must and it should be a mod that was done long before breaking the 400whp mark in my book.

it should have come stock.

I'm there with you. Seems way too high. Whenever ASR gets in here, we'll know whats true and not true.

125mph trap + 2.7 '60 = rookie @ the strip.

Even an lsd isnt going to stop a rookie from punching the throttle and bringing home a 2.7. The weight distribution of a 335i/135i is not exactly ideal for a '60 to begin with. Now when you increase the power to really challenge your suspension on the launch, you can try adding an lsd and changing the weight transfer with shocks + other suspension modifications but eventually you will have to start learning how to roll into the throttle.
