adaptive headlights out of line

My headlights are out of line. When I bought the car 1500 miles ago, I never notice it. I took it out at night and realized this maybe two weeks ago. This is the only free time I could get to go get it fixed due to a busy schedule.

I bring my car to the nearest dealership (BMW Bayside) and they tell me that I have to pay 150 to alline the headlights. I was Like WTF????

It is part of my warrenty? I am really pissed that they tried to charge me for this, I called where I bought the car (JMK) and they said that it is all covered under the warrenty, and if I want to bring it to them they would do it for nothing.

Now that dealership is 150 miles away. I find this to be so agrivating that BMW lets this go on!!!!! I WANTED TO PUNCH THE SERVICE ADVISOR IN THE FACE.

you can easily adjust the vertical height of the beam & change the horizontal sweep of it.

All you need is a philips screwdriver and like 10mins

Open the hood

(VERTICAL, Adjust light beam higher/lower) Look at the TOP rear portion of the headlight. You will see a little protruding knob thing. Stick your screw driver in there and turn clockwise or counterclockwise. i forget which is up and which is down. but make adjustments to that and do test drives. I recommend parking on a flat surface with a nice wall infront of you (at night)

(Horizontal, changing the width of your light pattern) Look on your fenders, where the hood sits.. Closest to the fender you will see a small black plastic cap thingy thats popped into the fender. Just use your hands to pull that off. Underneath is another protruding knob that controls the horizontal sweep. Use your philips screwdriver accordingly

This WILL save you some trouble lmk if u have any questions

^this...It takes all of 3 minutes to do yourself, not worth the drive to any dealership, nevermind 150 miles away. Plus they'll probably point them to low for your liking. After I had one of the xenons replaced the dealer pointed the headlights into the ground, I couldn't see more then 50 feet in front of me. Once I got home I cranked them back up again

No. The 328i comes with halogens. The 335i sedan comes with xenons standard in both sedan and coupe form.

Whats going on with BMW Bayside... I've been hearing alot of horror stories about this place. Sounds like a place we should keep our car away from or just show BMW NA all these posts.

Before you do ANYTHING, the right headlight is suppose to point HIGHER than the left.

Hi, thanks.

Regarding the Horizontal adjust, could you please send me or post a picture of the "knob"; I just can't find it (right side).

Thanks a lot.

David.-

Note: horizontal adjust is only for E90s I believe. If there's a horizontal adjustment on the E92 I've never been able to find it haha

Can anyone confirm that?

Yep - it only takes 3 minutes to screw up the alignment on your headlights.

Have the dealer you bought the car from call your local dealership and explain to them how to bill it as warranty, then have the local dealership do it.

There is a chance that there is something wrong with your headlights. Trying to adjust them yourself may cause you warranty woes.
