335 low oil after 7500 miles?

I have an 09 335 xdrive with about 7500 miles. The low oil indicator came on today. Service dept said to bring it in to fill up and that it's normal to burn oil that fast. Does that seem legit?

Normal. Do a search for "burn oil" or "add oil" or "oil level" etc. if it helps you feel more secure that it's normal.

Great - feel better that there's nothing wrong. I've had the car since 11/08 and I have to say I get a smile every time I drive it still. I do wish my commute was longer though. Also our infant carseat (keyfit 30) fits perfectly in the rear center - yeah!

Normal. So I guess that those of us who have never added oil should take our cars in to be checked for ABNORMAL oil consumption! Of course by definition, normal means at least 50% have the same condition. Its normal for men lose their hair as they get older. Doesn't mean there is not a problem. Some do not lose their hair. If you are burning oil, and many of us are not, don't tell me there is not a problem. Maybe your piston rings never seated completely? Maybe BMW sets the standard for "excessive" oil consumption arbitrarily high so they almost never have to have an excessive oil consumption claim. IMHO, that policy is BS.

Actually that seems kinda early. I didn't have to top off my oil till after 10,000 miles.

I'm having to add oil every 1500-2k miles =( Nothing is visibly leaking.

I'm taking it in to have it looked at, anyone with similar oil consumption.

Lets face it. Some cars use more oil than others. Every engine will consume some oil. Many consume very little and rarely if ever need to be topped off. Others, use more. It's my OPINION, that break in technique has a lot to do with how much oil your engine will consume. Its also my contention that the BMW(and other manufacturers) break in recommendations are geared towards being ABSOLUTELY sure that nothing will break while the engine tolerances are tight. Unfortunately, this CAN lead to having an engine that MIGHT be prone to consuming oil. Is that a bad thing? Adding a qt of oil to your engine periodically is not really that expensive. Should it be necessary. IMHO, NO.

I'm experiencing the same usage. I'm to the point where I just walk into the dealership, and my SA hands me a quart of oil without saying anything. According to him this usage is considered normal by BMW

I had to have mine topped off after a warning light came on on my way across the state, luckily my blackberry found a dealership in the middle of nowhere.
