For those of you who are married....
To what extents to you go to make your mod purchases fly below the wife radar? Share your best schemes and tales for all to learn and take note.
For me, I was able to pocket some mod money with: 1) Lease deposit refund from my last BMW $500 2) BMW CCA $500 New Car Rebate 3) Parting out old car - Accumulated +$800 in Payapl Now don't get me wrong -- I'm not afraid or prohibited from making purchases. It's just that every time she learns of me spending $300 for say something like a BT Scan, then that alone is justification and entitlement for her to go out and purchase a $300 Coach purse. Please help me out here. I can't be the only one here. Do tell.... Promise not to tell. |

She knows that I love my car just slightly less than I love her, and that it makes me happy. She also makes sure that I dont go into debt modding the car. Plus, she lets me mod hers, so it all evens out.

I see how that could work -- My case however I'd be pimpin' her Honda Odyssey. For some reason I just don't think that 22" wheels on the minvan will look appropriate when dropping the kids off at pre-school

Marrying a motorhead chick is a big bonus. My wife told me i should spend the extra 8K on the 335i vs. the G37. She drives a slightly tricked out GTI and is all for me spending money I work hard to earn on modding all my babies (her and the car).

you have to buy her something too, this way there is no problem with spending money on car which let's face it, is a compeltely pointless thing to do from their point of view (and if we are objective from anyone's point of view unless its repairs).

Trust me on this, if your sneaking around with money buying mods, then i can almost guarantee she's sneaking around buying purses and shit. Its all from experience man.

Been married for 28 years to the same lovely lady and the one thing I know is that you shouldn't try to fly under the radar. Marrage is 50/50.
Go find her new pocketbook, take your nuts out of it and put them back where they belong and sit down and talk to her. If the two of you can't communicate and work together as a couple, you need to spend your money stash on something more important, like a counselor or a lawyer. Man Up

What's fair is fair. If you spend $500 on what you want, she should also be able to spend $500 on what she wants, no questions asked.

IMHO, honesty is the best policy when it comes to a relationship. I've been dishonest about a few things with my wife and the consequences of hiding things from her are far greater than telling the truth in the first place. You'll have to tell her about your mods sooner or later, so come clean now. Just my $.02.

I have found that since marriage, my modding has just about stopped. That is probably a good thing. I already bought a home, but in the next few years, we are looking to buy a bigger home. Money going towards a better home is better IMO than modding a car.
You can still do projects without spending big bucks too. That is what I have found more recently that is an option. |

we have the opposite problem ,my wife enjoys all the hobbies i do. from hunting to photography to target shooting to the bimmer... two issues, the first is we have no adult supervision what so ever...im 57 shes 59 and there is no one to tell us dont spend 500 bucks on something we get a whim to buy.
the other issue is whatever we do buy we have to get 2 of usually.... |

I deal with the same things; I find it is easier to just tell her I'm getting something, she's going to see the package anyway...
I just make sure that if I'm going to get something, I have enough left over for her to feed her own addiction of getting a new coach purse. |

My wife and I each divide our paychecks between our one joint account and our own separate accounts. My car payment comes out of my own account as does anything I buy for the car (other than say detailing products used on both). It has really worked well for us having separate money to spend on something the other would think is stupid.
