Home made intake box

Hey everyone,

Ive had my BMS dual cones installed for about 6 weeks now. I was shocked every time when i opened the hood and the dual cones were so hot you could fry an egg on them. So, i decided to attempt to make some sort of heat shield so the air coming through the kidneys would go directly to the cones instead of mixing around with the extremely hot engine air. The pictures below show my final product. I have been using this for about 3 weeks now and it seems to work very well. The cones stay pretty much cool to the touch. Overall, the 3-4 hours spent making this, and $30 i spent were very worthwhile.

Forgot to add,

One thing i did notice compared to the intake with out my box is that the famed wooshh sound is toned down to where you pretty much cant hear it inside the car...

Perhaps you are restricting airflow by blocking off the sides? I think a quality vented hood will help cool down the engine bay and perhaps even improve DCI flow.

Yes, i may be slightly restricting it, but i would be restricting the hot air coming off the engine. The air i want my engine to be "sucking" in is coming directly through the kindeys and funneled directly to my cones.

Yeah, the lower IAT's may compensate for the decreased flow as far as performance goes. I don't know about you, but I'm completely addicted to the whooooosh sound. I'm running w/o the cowl and it's just bliss hearing it breath. My girlfriend asks me if it's the wind she's hearing...HAHA!

BTW, I like what you did w/ the snorkel tie-down. I'll probably do the same to get it pointed directly @ the cones.

very nice!! keep that heat away from your intakes as much as possible.

you could take this a step farther and enclose that box, use the factory snorkel and then add another one to the fog light area.
